Default Which Battery, Lead Acid, AGM, Gel or Lead Crystal

Hi all, again, I know the topic of batteries has been extensively posted but a lot of the details are from a few years back and I would be grateful for some current advice.

My current Deltec 105ah battery is not what it used to be so the question is, what to replace it with. I have read so many posts and so many conflicting opinions.

Lead Crystal seems to be the best but it's expensive, I would prefer a deep cycle with a slightly quicker charge rate then my current Deltec, I read that AGM are good but don't like being charged at higher voltages, are AGM the same as Gel?

Except for Lead Crystal, what would give me the fastest recharge rate with a good DOD. Appreciate any thoughts

What is your alternator pushing out. If 13.8 or 14.2 it could influence your decision. Some battery's are great on 13.8 some need 14.2.

I also have a Deltec and have found on the Gen 2 Pajero it does not charge as well as if it is on the battery charger or from solar.
Lusted for a Landy but the Pajero was sexier and bigger in the right departments, just like my Missus.

Odd that you had issues on your Gen 2. I get 14.4 from mine.

You are basically asking the same question as your other thread, Why don't you just add another 50 W panel first to your setup as suggested by Fluffy, do a trial test at a camp or home.

Having the extra power to charge your setup will be fine for the 3 days stop over.

We have 160 Watts and it's great, the only time it gets tricky is when we do long stays with rain /cloudy conditions.

    Thanks Dirtrider,

Basically my current 105 Deltec has had it, even though i have a solar setup, i still need to get a new battery. What i really need to know is if a AGM or DryCell battery will work in my NL power pack, from what i have read the NL does not deliver the same charge as a DC-DC system.

The solar setup can help with this when parked but weather permitting.

Will the NL power pack get a regular Deep Cycle closer to full charge then a AGM battery? I saw a post from Fluffy who stated that no battery will get close to a full charge from an alternator

Do you think i should just replace my regular deep cycle with another or consider AGM or DryCell?

I can get a 100ah Vision battery at the same price as a regular deep cycle, just need to know if my dual battery setup would work with an AGM

    Many Thanks
