Default Baboons Pass Here we come.

    Hi all.

We planning a trip this year between a bunch of guys to do
    Baboons pass.

Has anyone got some helpful advice regarding this route.
    1. GPS coordinates to for the start of the pass.
    2. When would be a good time to do it? - Currenly we planning either August , September or Ocktober
    3. How many days do we need for the pass? - We plannning around 2 days
    4. How many campable spots are there on the pass? - So far I know of 1.
    5. Any other advice? Prefarably from someone who has actually done this pass.
    Thanks in advance

I haven't done it (or any 4x4 routes), but from what I've seen on Youtube: Plan 2 trips. One to the top, and one to go back for the broken vehicles, with parts

    Watch it!

It winched itself up Goliath! It just needed a Cruiser and a P38 for stability!

In fairness that volksie was stock standard and had no low range and as offroadaddict pointed out, a gatvol driver that just wanted to sleep in a bed that night!

The driver also did not know his vehicle at the time and didn't know not to switch it of when the torque converter got warm, but rather to let it idle to allow the cooling system to do it's thing

Further, the manual volksie made it al the way with no assistance!

Anyone can do Babboons, as long as you take the right people with you!

Although the weather can change at a moments notice in Lesotho, these months that you mention are the most vile, in weather terms for this pass, but also the most exciting.... If you do want to do it in these months, remember that it does snow in this beautiful country at any time in any of these months, and with el nino in full swing and les nina, taking it's place it would be advisable to take into consideration that we might have quite an excessively cold/long winter this year...

Invest in some snow chains, and igloo building tools...

oh... one more thing.... LP Gas... does not help at 3000m..

Good luck and please keep us posted

Baboons can be from fairly simple to a nightmare. You only need rain and snow. And then throw a broken vehicle in the mix where you cant pass.

Dustin that is the best report i've ever read. Fully agree with you.

Would like to also see what comes out of this thread as I won't mind doing the pass this year or early next year.

    Esspecially about the current conditions

Not always entirely the vehicle to get the blame, some blame must surely be put squarely on the driver , maybe some inexperience or just to lazy to take the right line and so on.
