Default Triton - Temporary custom iPad Mini mount

So I decided to make a custom iPad Mini mount for temporary use. ie. When I use it as a gps for touring/off-road. Other apps I use are an inclinometer and the music app, etc.

I have a parrot Bluetooth kit so the iPad audio plays over the cars radio.

Waze is nice for traveling long distance and motionX is great for traveling where there is no cell signal as you can pre-download sections of a map, track your route, see terrain elevation, and it also has some off-road tracks on the motionX maps.

My idea is to design an iPad mount for temporary use, that will use the slot under the top screen as a mounting support.

I have ordered a wallee iPad mount which will form the part of mount on the iPad side.

So my Wallee iPad Mini cover has arrived It is a nice hard cover case and wasn't too expensive

It seems to hold the iPad firmly enough that it won't fall out during any bouncy off-roading

I've started the wooden part of the bracket. I used a 22x144 plank of pine. From the pic you can see I used two extra pieces to lift the iPad up so it's centered. The Wallee wall mount is also in the pic

Next is the pic of the finished product. I've stripped it all again so that I can paint it. The ends are tapered so that it fits in the slot in the dash better.

I am still going to attach adhesive foam strips to the bottom for a snug fit

    Final product

I used the thinnest adhesive foam strips I could find. The foam strips are on the top and the bottom.

I have had similar thoughts but more to use the camera of one of my unused BlackBerry PlayBooks. Thus it would need to be mounted higher and be able to flip down so that I could read the info display. Without damaging the console by permanent fixtures, not easy. Still scheming though. If I hit the brainwave I will post!

Ok cool. So your own version of a dash cam then, but still with the functionality of a tablet?

It is just the pressure on the foam rubber strips that keep the mount in place. It does sit in there quite firmly. I have already checked and there is no damage or scuff marks left behind from my mount.
