I have a safari snorkel on which was fitted from when I bought the vehicle so I cannot really comment on any performance changes with or without it.

Mine was however badly installed and butchered by the land rover mechie that did the job. I then opened everything and made sure all the pipe junctions were sealed. I used almost 4 tubes of silicone in the process of sealing everything.

Personally I prefer the look of the Mantec snorkels and one day I want to change mine for the mantec. I will then also seal it again with another 4 tubes of silicone

But that said, now that it is properly sealed, I have the peace of mind knowing that I can attempt up to 1.5m deep crossings. (If need be, I've been caught unawares and ended up 1.2m deep previously)

Hi Donald I've had both Safari and Mantec snorkels installed. You really cannot feel any difference in performance nor change in fuel consumption.

The only difference is sound, you no longer here the induction sound from the intake, especially on the Safari which points away from the driver. The Mantec you can still here slightly because its sucks all around the 'mushroom' top. The Safari definitely had more wind noise compared to the Mantec which is almost 100% quiet, which suggests its more aerodynamic.

Installation is straight forward, although I need to fix mine like Partyranger mentioned.

I've been thinking about this mod for a while but was never really sure if it would work with the snorkel fitted.

No noticable difference in my opnion, but I do think it can only improve airflow and possibly performance although it's so little it's not noticable. Maybe on a dyno one will see a kw or two more power. I don't regret doing the mod.

Didn't the D2's have a similar impeller on their air boxes that everyone removed?

Fitted the intake ducking. I must say fitting this 100mm hose is not for the faint hearted.

On EVERY occasion after my Defender was serviced my filter lid was put back incorrectly and the rear tabs (under the fender) not engaged. This will cause water (even fine spray) to be sucked in directly on to the filter.

Make sure the turbo is clean and OK and maybe get your intercooler blown out with some serious petrol and air pressure.
Agree I had the same problem, I heard a roaring noise and the open filter box was the problem.

    go and nail the dealer.

I had to fit a snorkel because the dust churned up by the front wheel would block my aircleaner in minutes, especially driving in burned veld. Asked the dealer to come to the party but not interested. I suggested they fit snorkels to all Defenders if they can tell they work in dusty conditions. My snorkel fixed that problem but not the other problems I had with my Defenders.
