    Angry Stealers and blatant fraud

    I am fuming.
My girlfriend took her 2008 city golf to a garage in Woodstock for a service. Car at 92000km. at 62000km another garage did the cam belt, now they recon the cam belt tensioner is broken so fitted a new cam belt!
I'm already a bit suspicious but could have happened. They tell her that the clutch is finished and quote her R3680 to replace the clutch and to skim the flywheel.
I take her car for a drive and guess what, the clutch is sticky as hell and stiff. Replace the clutch cable which when removed is worn and the steel inner has cut through the plastic sheath. Car now perfect all for a total cost of R120 for the cable and an hour's graft on my part. I'm waiting for the owner of the garage to call me back tomorrow so I can tell him what I think of his garage

    Name and shame.

Had the same issue with a CitiGolf where the guy reckoned the clutch was buggered because they couldn't adjust it enough.

    Cable was stretched............

I don't deal with the guy any more.

The problem these days is that most of the mechanics left in the industry is new part fitters. they will keep on changing parts until the problem goes away. no ability to do proper fault finding.

Quite a few years ago I had an Opel Astra 2.0lts. Started having a surging idle problem, took it in and they first wanted to change the cam sensor, I told the ouk he was taking chances cause if you rev it it came right, then he changed his mind and wanted to change air flow sensor what a plonker....

Needles to say the workshop manager came out to see what the commotion was about when I quite clearly and loudly told the mech how utter useless he was and started looking for himself he started running his hand along the air pipes and trues nuts found a small tear in the pipe between the air flow sensor and turbo. He took black silicone and put a blob on it. Worked like a charm

Sold the car 7 years later still running like a bat out of hell

no indy is ever licenced to do work

panelbeaters get approva lte repair based on standards criteria and csi

but not a mechanical workshop - your indy is a "box"

Will wait for his call in the morning!
Sad thing is that I'm sure many people, mostly females who don't have 'backup' need to trust the "Mechanic" and get taken for a ride in the process.

A clutch kit is R800 + release bearing I really doubt that they use genuine spares.
