Default New 2.8 Auto DC Hilux, things that annoy me!

So after deciding on a new bakkie on the 4th, I received my new Hilux on Wednesday the 9th. The financing, buying experience and trade in value was great. (Traded in a 2005 F250 2x4 SC)

Overall im very happy with the Hilux, things that annoy me:

    1. The rear seat cant fold down (or I cant seem to find the lever to get it to fold down), there is only 2 small compartments underneath the seat.

    2. When I lock or unlock the Hilux the horn honks, once for lock, twice to unlock the front door and 2 more times to unlock the rest of the car.... its too loud!!

    Other issues:

    3. I wanted leather seats, not available in SA (yet ?)

    4. No LED running lights like the Australian version

    5. No satnav (apparently the 4.0 petrol does have ?)

    6. The screen looks like an afterthought

You have to worry about a person who orders, receives, pays for & drives off in a vehicle without noticing the seats are cloth....

That alarm thing can be programmed I'm sure...

Good news is its a Toyota so trade in will be reasonable should you want to upgrade later.

    We had leather fitted
Agree with the horn it's annoying
Don't understand the screen complaints have you looked at Mercedes/Audio/BMW if yes then you'll appreciate the Hilux screen
    Keyless entry would be nice
Wonder if the LED lights can be ordered from Toyota Australia and will they fit/work

Your dealer can spec leather seats with TSA - my local dealer offered this to me late last year already when I put my name down for a Hilux. I have driven past the showroom and they do have leather with "Raider" embroided on the backrests of the front seats.

I went and looked at the new hilux the weekend.Must admit the top spec unit looks pretty good in the flesh. The dash will take getting used to but its pretty well laid out and seats quite comfy..The only negative....The back seating is cramped.Im 6'2 and my head is millimetres from the roof.Other than that i like it.The front seating position is nice

I am almost 100% sure the horn honk on opening and closing can be set by the dealer.

I had my 3.0 D4D horn honk activated when opening and closing the doors via remote to be sure the doors actually lock when the Bas&*^%ds jam the signal of the remote.

I have checked this 100 times and it works really well.

Can they not like most other decent car brands add a proper alarm buzzer? You don't want to deactivate the horn, just because it irritates the crap out of everyone, you want a notification, but not the horn version, sheesh.

The Audi one slides in and out of the dash on A3's etc....can leave it in dash whilst working. If phone rings whilst in dash it automatically slides up again.

I drove a rental A3 last week, and was pleasantly surprised by this feature. It looks so much cleaner without it. And you hardly use it in any way.

quote''1. The rear seat cant fold down (or I cant seem to find the lever to get it to fold down), there is only 2 small compartments underneath the seat. ''end quote. Don't know if its the same on the new hilux but on the old ones the back seat's back rest does not fold down, but you can modify it to fold down (you will find a few threads on how to do this). I did it (went for the hooks bending method) and it helps a bit got a few things behind the seat now.

After camping with a tent, and driving the campers crazy with the loud HORN sound (next to the tents), I simply removed the horn and housing and fitted a 12V small siren in its place. Now it makes a "peep-peep" sound, much softer and acceptable.

I cannot believe a 2016 Toyota does not have Daylight Running Lights.
Come on Toyota - DRL should be standard.

Congrats , interesting add-ons . It's also interesting to see how Toyota South Africa specs it for our local favor compared to other countries that prefer the bling factor .

Don't know about the 2.8, but the 4.0 which I sat in at a dealer this past weekend had leather.

    Hey Leetpro

    Congrats on your new bakkie.

The "alarm" hooter can be de-activated by removing the wire from the horn in the engine bay. It is a dedicated horn for the alarm so the hooter will still work. You can find it on the drivers side of the engine bay mounted on the outward bulkhead.

It does have "running lights " just not fancy LED ones like the Aus models. Just set the light switch to Auto and all is well.

There are many aftermarket companies that will fit leather seats for you. cheaper than Toyota and you can choose your leather and stitching !!

    Hope you enjoy

If you disconnect the horn then your alarm won't work.

I'm sure we test drove the 2.8 and it had Satnav?

The guys complaining are talking about the DRL as in the ones that audi became famous for. That kind that no other standard DC bakkie currently has, but once again toyota are idiots for not fitting it.

The only one that does have it is tha Amarok Ultimate, but then again according to the vw guys, they actually need it since the headlights on the amarok is apparently poor. Then again I'm sure that for R617,000 toyota will also help you out with DRL and the other gadgets.
