    Default Narrowest tyres/rims for Condor 2.4 4x4

Hi - I was given a Toyota Condor 2.4 liter 4x4, in great condition. 2004 model with only 98000km on the clock.

I would love to keep the vehicle, but currently do 95% of my driving in town, with no off-roading. Fuel consumption in town is very high, around 14 or 15l per 100km.

I was hoping that fitting narrower rims/ tyres would help reduce rolling resistance. What is the narrowest rim and tyre that I could safely fit on the vehicle. Any other fuel saving tips would also be appreciated. Someone suggested a supercharger.

    Thanks.

What size tyre do you currently have on?

I seriously doubt whether it would make a noteable difference. If you take the expense of new rims and tyres over the time you have the vehicle, you might still not show a saving. Toyota's were never economical, dependable yes

We had a Isuzu KB250 in the 90's. It came out with 195R14 but we wanted to 'advertise' the mags, so we switched to 235/70R15 Wrangler AT/SA...you know what the difference was...Nothing. Granted the speedo must've been out slightly but still gave 13.8km/l...

Buy a small car and park the Condor.

You're in CT, how much mileage do you do/can you do?

Thanks for the feedback. I do around 15000km per year. Mostly school runs and work.

Contact Willied or oom Grips on the forum. They know these engines well and may know of a way to better the consumption.

Don't expect too much though. The 2.2 and 2.4 Toy engines are notorious for three things: low power, longevity and hectic fuel consumption.

Narrower tyres will never save more than say 10%.

15k km per year = 1,250km per month

assuming 6km/L we have 208L per month

Petrol is R13 to the liter

    current expense R2,708 per month

Saving would be R271 per month or else R3,250 per year which is more than the cost of a set of 205/70R15 which is the smallest tyre I'd fit on the Condor as it is quite top heavy.

You'd need 18 months before you even start seeing a cost saving.

    Does that answer your question?
