    Default kgalagadi

My wife and I is going to kgalagadi in July.
I will be driving my x trail 2.0 dci (non 4x4) and towing a trailer.
My question is we are staying at mata mata for 2 nights and then moving to nossob will I be able to use the duinepad or must I travel all the way down to twee rivieren.

All in all I would say the duine road is in a better condition than the "main" roads.

I just returned from two weeks there. The "main routes", TR to MM via Kamqua, MM to Nossob via Moravet, MM to Nossob via Kij Kij can even really be done in a sedan. I've seen them and I've done the road over and over. The challenge is not clearance but the corrugations. They just advise a tougher vehicle. The road from TR to Nossob is the same for most, but recently there are two sections where they are doing maintenance work that has a bit of thicker sand. These sections are between Kij Kij and Dikbaardskolk (closer to Dikbaardskolk). When getting to those patches, just assess the road, choose a path just gun it at speed and you will really be fine with a 2x4. The patches are about max 20 metres and below the sand is hard. I saw sedans at Nossob, so they got through it fine, maybe had some swerving fun

Be sure to book a night drive with Thys as guide at Mata Mata. very knowledgable and entertaining.

Deflate your tyres. Makes ride smoother, better for the vehicle, does not help cause the corrugations in the first place.

Forgot to mention that yes. 1.5 or 1.6 when you enter TR, inflate when you leave out of TR again.

Also there is July, with a new brown Fortuner, I hope... Is the Duine road "MM to Nossob via Moravet"? Thanks for all the advice

If you have not seen it yet, also refer to the (long) Kgalagadi thread in the Northern Cape section.
