Default Best Jeep Service in Cape Town area

I have seen several Jeep owners who complained on this forum about the service of Agents all over the country. I also struggled for a long time with a turbo over boost problem on my 2.8 crd KJ. The agents in CT tried everything, and it all happened while the car was covered under motor plan. Well to make a long story short, they could not fix the problem, and I gave up on them after several times there and back. The car sometimes stayed with them for a few days. I had to get this car sorted out at all cost because I could not get rid of it because of the over boost problem, and because of the re- sale value of a second hand Jeep. I was stuck with it.

I decided to give a private "Jeep Specialist" a chance on my car, and He got about 5 different fault codes when he plugged his diagnostic tool in for the first time. He started eliminating the faults one by one, and believe me it was shocking what came out when he stared working on the car. He even found the impeller nut missing when opening the turbo. (Someone opened it before?) Only the agents worked on my car. The pipe from the turbo was loose. I can go on and on....I do not want to bore you with all the detail, because I think there are a lot of people who had the same experience.

I can recommend this guy to all the Jeep owners in Cape Town area. He knows his "Jeep" and he knows the electronics’ of this car. I nearly gave up on my KJ. Well my Jeep is sorted out!! It is a total different car today. He even helped me with a power upgrade. It is nice to know that there is someone in Cape Town with his level of knowledge of this brand. Aldren is a true SPECIALIST. Now I'm driving a 2.8KJ with more than 120kw and more than 400nm torque. What a pleasure!! AND NO OVERBOOST PROBLEM. It is because there are still people who really care about a client.

Contact Aldren van Zyl: 021-5550025/ 021-5551019 The name of his Business is: Unlimited Auto & Precision (Specializing in Jeep) He is in Montaque drive.

I hope this info can help someone on this forum too!

    Regards

    DeonM

Thanks for the report Deon. I've booked mine for a comprehensive service next week... will report back afterwards.

They're just much more conveniently located than APS for me.

Mine went to UA &P a few weeks ago for it's 60k service and I was very happy with their service - price was fair IMO too.

Glad to know there's more Jeep specialists in Cape Town that's not out to rip people off and provide good service!

My Jeep needed a new O2 sensor the other day. When I went to Jeep to pick up the part I asked if they can fit it for me quickly and clear the fault code (an O2 sensor is as easy to fit as a spark plug). It was on a Saturday and they were quite busy, so I could get over the fact that they didn't want to do it without an appointment, but I was quite amazed when they said that on my 2000 model Jeep they can't read or clear the codes in any case - their computer can only do the newer models

Thats rubbish. You can read and erase with nearby all of the aftermarket reader on your 2000 XJ . The first reader in my workshop here in germany was about 90 Euros whats about 900 Rand.

Think there is much business waiting for me down there. Please wait until I get my shop transfered to SA . Let me provide you a very good service then. Will take me about one or two years. May be three when my son comes back from USA

Hi Wolfram, I must say I also found that quite strange that they couldn't read and clear faults on the older models. Was told that by the service advisor and I think they often don't know the practicalities of what can or can't be done as well as they should.

Looking forward to you opening shop in Cape Town!

When my Jeep was at Century City for a few items to be sorted, the workshop foreman/manager (Andrew) was most amazed that I was able to tell him what codes my car had reported and also what they meant. He claims that he was not aware of the self diagnostic ability by turning the ignition key 3 times or the websites where you can see what each code indicates.

When I joked that at least now that he new about it he would be able to do the same and check on the internet what the code referred to, his comment was something like "not in this place - we don't have access to the internet"

Do I need to say any more.......

I can only aggree about UAP. I have still to come across someone with the patience and knoledge that Aldrin has!

I once couldn't get my Jeep started (on a Sunday!), plucked up the courage and phoned his cell. He patiently explained what to do - this is service to me!

Also, whenever my Jeep has been to his centre, I always get a detailed statement and to boot I get my Jeep back shiny clean inside and out! A establishment REALY worth supporting!!

What I like most is that Aldrin is that he keeps one in the picture - if he discovers something - he phones and explains! Not just here's the bill sign here!

With regards to Century City Jeep I totaly agree!! They change my starter motor under warranty because the car wouldnt start, mean while it was the battery!!! how stupid can you get.

Jeep service in general sucks. I will defiantely use UAP as soon as my warrantry expires!!

    Story below.....

I purchased my Jeep Grand Cherokee from JJ at Jeep Century City In December 2997 and was offered and extended service plan by the lady working there, Beverly I believe. I was told that the extension was until 80,000km and included all services and parts. I was told all I had to pay for would be tyres and petrol.

What I was not told, was that the extended warranty was not actually a Chrysler warranty, but rather a warranty with Motormend.

On Friday the 17th March 2009 while driving into Maputo my warning lights came on indication there was a problem with the car. I immediately pulled over and other members of the convoy had a look and we determined that the car was overheating due most likely to a water pump problem. My brother then towed me into Maputo and while being towed we contacted Chrysler Roadside assistance. They asked me if I needed a breakdown truck and I said that I would get my brother to tow me to the Komati border gate and they could meet me there and take my vehicle to Nelspruit. I also indicated to them that it was more than likely the water pump and they should check if the dealership in Nelspruit had one in stock.

The following morning we met the breakdown vehicle at the border and my jeep was loaded and taken to the dealership, Union Motors. On the drive I contact Chrysler again to see if they could start working on the car the same day and I was told that they don’t work on a Saturday but would start on Monday morning first thing. I again asked them please to ensure that there was a water pump at the dealership.

On Monday morning the 20th April I called Union motors and asked to speak to the workshop manager and was told he was on leave but I could speak to his assistant. I chatted to her and explained the situation and that I needed to get back to Cape Town as my kids needed to go to school and also I needed to vote on the 23rd April. I again asked her please to make sure they had a water pump in stock.

At 10am I called the dealership and was put through to a Thabo, the service consultant. He said they had not started on the vehicle yet and asked me what was wrong with the vehicle! I once again explained that the car was overheating due most likely to a water pump problem. He said he would pass this onto the technician assigned to the job.

At 11am the technician called me to say that it cant be the water pump as that was working. I explained again that the car overheats very quickly and could he check again. Half an hour later he called to say I was correct and that it was the water pump. He then said they didn’t have one in stock and would have to order it from JHB and it would only arrive the following day!!!! As I had no choice I told him to go ahead.

Later that afternoon Thabo called me to say my vehicle was out of warranty. I jumped in my hired car and went there and showed him the extended warranty document that was inside the service book and explained that I had purchased an extended warranty with the vehicle. He said that he would sort it out for me.

The following morning I was at jeep when the part arrived at 11am and I asked Thabo that once the part was in and the vehicle was ready, that they did not to clean it as I was hoping to drive through the night so that I could vote the following day.

Around 1pm I was told the vehicle was ready. I went to Thabo and he said I now had to sort out the bill for the towing and the repairs!!!!! I queried why now, and he said that the towing was not included in the extended warranty. I now found out that the extended warranty was not actually a Chrysler warranty, but a Motor mend warranty. He had also not sorted the repair bill out with Motormend. To save time I gave him my credit card and told him that we could sort out the bill later as I wanted to leave. The payment for the towing and the repairs was then charged to my credit card.

While driving away from Union Motors I called Motormend and they confirmed that the policy was valid and Union Motors could submit the claim. I called Thabo and he said he would submit the claim and refund me for the repair. A few days later the repair was credited.

The tow in bill amounted to R3916.78 which I though was heavy, so I called a few towing companies and was quoted R2200 for the same tow, so I called the owner of the towing company and he said it was a special deal between him and Union Motors. I called Union motors and spoke to Anne Thevenau who said that they put a mark up on the towing charges because they call and arrange the tow. I asked she how she can justify a 30% markup for one phone, which is to assist their own client? She said it was standard policy. I then wrote an email the Dealer Principle, Paul Croxon about this and his Service Administrator, Kim Louw agreed to pass a credit down to R2859.10 for the towing charge.

We left Nelspruit at 3pm and drive through the night and made it home by 8am and went to vote. The vehicle performed perfectly and did not overheat or give any problems.

I used the vehicle all week and on Sunday 25th April while returning from a lunch I noticed that the temperature was climbing towards the red. The following morning I contact Jeep Century City and they advised I should tow the vehicle in. I got a friend to tow me to the dealership and handed the keys to Gadija, the service advisor. I explained what had happened in Nelspruit.

A week later I called to find out what was happening and she told me that they only had one technician that specializes in working on that motor and he was busy until the following week. The following week I was then told that both the heads on the vehicle had blown and they would have to stripped off and either repaired or replaced but that the job would cost around R16000.00 for the tests and labour and possibly another R17000.00 for the repairs and parts. I explained once again that the there was an extended warranty which should take care of that.

A few days later she called me and said that Motormend were not happy to pay for the repairs as Union Motors should have fixed the vehicle properly the first time and that they suspect the damage was caused because Union Motors should have done a water pressure test to check the heads. I said it her that she should call Union Motors and sort it out between them as I was the customer and I should not be dragged into their internal problems. I also said that she must continue with the repairs and that we could sort out who was going to pay the bill for the repairs later on.

Another week went by after which she again called me to say that they had to replace both heads as they were warped and again she said that Motormend were still not happy to pay for the repairs as they still had not received the water pressure test report from Union Motors. I asked if she had spoken to Union Motors and she said she had, and they insisted that they had done the test, but did not have a report. I again said that she should sort this out between the two parties as it was an internal issue. She said she would and that she would come back to me.

The last communication I had from her or anyone at Jeep\Chrysler was on the 2nd July 2009. It is now the 26th July and I have heard nothing at all. No one has bothered to contact me to tell me what is happening.

I went to Unlimited Auto & Precision this past Tuesday to ask them for a quote to fix a couple of specific items. By Friday I had called them back 3 times to ask where my quote is.

EDIT: since the above, happened, I have been back to UAP 3 times & can only report that their service is impeccable. Aldren really has impressive knowledge of Jeeps & their prices are very reasonable. They also did my throttle body modification & he also quoted me a good price on my new manifold.

I will go back to them without reservation

Unlimited Auto is the best place to take your JEEP. I've had mine for 10 years now and fortunately stumbled onto Aldrin/Nicky and the team. It is refreshing to deal with a company that has pride in their work and offers extensive knowledge and experience of a very specialized vehicle. I LOVE my JEEP and I will now drive it forever with the knowledge that I have the right people looking after it and I won't be ripped off like before. Well done guys.

Hopefully Aldren can sort my Jeep Wrangler's stability out. I know very little about the machanical side of a vehicle. My Wrangler started bouncing its front wheels the other day, literally bounced. I took it to Jeep, they say they have never heard of something like this. I have taken the Jeep to various places to check the shocks, apparently they are fine. Had it at other places as well, also to no avail, so I will definately phone Aldre! Tx guys!

Do people still feel the same about UA&P now? It has been more than 6 years since the OP posted this. I have had mostly bad experiences with them. What do the rest of you think of them now?

I have recently had my first experience with Aldren and Unlimited. It was very poor to say the least. I do not think Aldren touched my vehicle (apparently Unlimited Auto are very busy of late), and instead he would throw so much jargon at me when I questioned why my repairs were going on for weeks over their promise. I eventually received the car with an array of faults, noises and creaks. Not to mention absolutely filthy on the inside with white dust everywhere.

Everyone recommended Unlimited to me, yet all I received was poor service and communication from the team. I have subsequently had to spend another 10k on my car to fix the issues Aldren ignored.

All in all - I was completely taken and ripped off, and I will not return. Ever.

Clearly things have changed from the "best service in CT" reviews from years ago !!
