AFAIK there are only two of them.
One overlooking the water hole the second I never found as I was just passing through.
There were quite a few animals around, possibly because the only water source in the area.
Not sure if this applies right now as there might have been local rains.

Recently Motopi camp-sites have been my favourite.Been enjoying lots and lots of animals at the water hole, and even saw a male lion. I was there this January 2016, there have the new shower and toilet structures. Pictures attached shows the view from the NO.1, on your right. The view from the camp-site is great, overlooking the plains.

Those are pictures from my 2014 trip in May. The grass has been cleared now, so don't worry much about the long grass in those pictures.

There are three and you cannot see the waterhole from any of them. In fact no 2 which we had in April last year was about 8 km from the waterhole on a horrendously overgrown track.

People change the numbers around as well.

Correct. They are far from the water hole.

Look, is it a lovely area unlike most of the CKGR with dunes looking more like hills and densely vegetated. Also very few people which I like. The campsites are not bad, but the track does need maintenance because it is clearly not regularly traveled.

I would love to spend some time there one day, but maybe in the dry season when the track is less overgrown. The distance for the waterhole as such does not bother me.

I think the folks are confusing CKGR Motopi with Kgalagadi Motopi. We stayed at no 1 in CKGR in 2013, lovely views over the Savannah and your standard bucket shower and longdrop.

Quite some distance from the waterhole though, can't recall any of the sites being close to the waterhole

Kgalagadi is Matopi. Stopover between Nossob and Mabua.

Was also a bit confused with the first few feedbacks.

We stayed at Motopi 2 - CKMOT02 (which are the nearest to the water hole 3km away) in April and August last year and explored the other two campsites. Motopi CKMOT01 is situated 6km further on and CKMOT03 8km further on on the same road leading to Motopi 2. As Christa has said, the roads to these camps, especially Mot 1 and 3 is very overgrown and Mot 3 notorious for becoming stuck in deep mud after only the slightest rain. All has the usual bucket shower and longdrop and enough space and shading for two vehicles/tent.

I rather like the area even though the road leading to the pan is boring. The amount of animals and birds at and around the waterhole more than enough make this area one of my favorites in the CKGR. We where privileged to see enough carnivores (lions, cheetah and leopard) and the usual CKGR game (giraffes included) on both occasions. When we departed in end August via Tsau Gate plenty of elephant crossed the road into CKGR. Wow, to long a story for the original question, but........................ like Tannie Elize always say, if you like, you like

Just got back from the CKGR and did a game drive up to Motipi from Passage valley, not much traffic on this track, lots of bird life at the waterhole.

Camp 2 was peaceful for a picnic.

    Wow Andre,

I like that lioness with the two tails, had to watch twice as I thought I develop double vision.

Amazing what CKGR can throw at you.
