    Default Kaokoland in May 2016

    Hi everybody,

Next May we have a couple of weeks off, and we were planning to visit Kruger for a relaxed holiday.
But after seeing the marvellous documentary "Vanishing Kings: Desert Lions of the Namib " on Nat Geo TV, we really want to visit Kaokoland again.

We have travelled through Kaokoland three times so far (Epupa - Van Zyls - Marienfluss - Hartmann's Valley - Marble Mine - Purros - Amspoort Gorge - Palmwag) but all these trips were done in September/October.
I would like to know if May is a suitable time for a trip as described above, or will high water or flash floods make driving in the riverbeds of the Khumib, Hoarusib and Hoanib rivers hard/impossible/dangerous?

    Thanks,
    Martin.
I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy.

It all depends on the rain - you should be OK, but be prepared to adjust your plan as you go.
There has been some big rain up there already, Serra Cafema has been washed out twice, once by the river and once by rain fall, Syncro has been flooded out, and Puros wiped out.
A lot can still happen, not just to the camps, but also to the roads.
    So . . . .

    Chris, Bostoe,

    Thanks for your advice.

We decided to do it, and visit Kaokoland in May.
Flights and rental car have been booked, so looking forward to yet another great trip in those magnificent landscapes!

    Martin.
