Default Fortuner vs Trailblazer vs Pajero Sport vs Pajero

    Hi Guys

I'm sure I'm not the first to ask this question. I am wanting to update my current vehicle which is a 2011 Fortuner 3.0 D4D 4x4 m/t (pre-facelift). It has done me well but I'm wanting something newer.

Do I stick to Fortuner or are the Trailblazer and Pajero Sport options to consider. I have a Metalian Maxi trailer so I need something that will cope well towing. auto vs manual?

I will be buying 2nd hand as I can't afford a new one. It appears I could get a Trailblazer or Pajero Sport with less km's and a later model than say a Fortuner for the same price. It appears you get more for your buck with a Trailblazer??

Or do I get an older Pajero? When did the Pajero Sport do away with the 3,2l motor and bring out the 2 versions of the 2,5l?

If I buy Fortuner again will it keeps its value when the new model is launched?

Lots of question marks in my head at present about which way to go.

    I'd appreciate some constructive comments.

My opinion but look at the older Pajero. The Sport only has a 1500kg tow rating which is too low for your Metalian. The Pajero has 3000kg tow rating. Your other choices are also good options, it will come down to personal choice. Go drive them all

I have just looked at the same range of vehicles and purchased a PS about 15min ago Went with the new Shogun because the deals offered are great.

You must have your reasons for freshening up your fleet now but I would personally wait. You have a 2011, great vehicle. A newer one will cost you money but provide marginal feeling of driving something newer. I say wait and see what is offered when new vehicles come out. Invariably new models will affect the second hand market a bit. Probablyy least in case of Toyota but others should drop in price just a bit more. You are then in the position to look at second hand market which has now adjusted to new models.

@KurtG Do you know why PS is rated at 1500kg in SA? Challenger in Aus is rated at 2500kg.

@Kurt didn't realise the PJ had such a low tow rating. That is one of the reasons why I need to upgrade as my 2011 Fortuner is also rated at 1500kg. Facelift models are about 2000kg. Other reasons are financial. I've built up a nice deposit so I'll be able to reduce my instalments and get a newer vehicle.

@ Mad Manny. Tks for the heads up. My tuna is the same as yours which only has a tow rating of 1500kg if I'm correct. My Metalian Maxi has a GVM of 1600kg so here is a problem.

Do you foresee Toyota running specials before new range comes out? Are you saying I should wait until the new Fortuner is launched before I consider changing?

Why not pay that nice deposit into the tuna, and reduce the term, saving interest in the long run?

@petermoffat the deposit value is in the existing Fortuner otherwise that would have been a great option.

Why o why can't we all be filthy rich and buy brand new 4 times 4's without worrying about deposits, trades in and installments?

If I can recall, the Fortuner beat the PajeroSport and the Trailblazer in the towing test with its highly advanced 4 speed auto gearbox. ...

My suggestion. Wait until the new Pajero Sport is launched.

Basically I'm a long time Toyota guy. I waited nine months for the new Fortuner to be launched here in Australia. When it came out, to say I was disappointed is an understatement. You won't even look at the base model and you can forget the top of the range, its in the luxury car range. The on-the-road price for the mid range is a few thousand A$ less than a mid range Prado. Problem is you have to pay for features, has no boot space worth talking about and the interior finishing very very poor.

I then went and looked at the new Pajero Sport, took it for a drive and was sold. If you want a well priced (significantly cheaper than Fortuner) reliable 8 speed 4x4 with a lot of features, comfortable electric leather seats (all models), a huge boot behind the back bench, superb fuel efficiency (7-7.5l/100km on the highway and about 8.5l/100km in town) this is the car.

If what's launched in South Africa is similar to what's available over here for a similar comparative price I'm going to say the Fortuner will have a tough time against this boy!!

Trailblazer, but I'm biased seeing that I own one. Bought the 2.8 automatic in 2012 and still very happy with it. Regularly tow a cararavan and at 110-110km/hr it is very easy to forget about the caravan behind you.

Owned a 3.0 d4d Hilux previously and drove a Fortuner at work for 2 years. Personaly I like the Trailblazer more.
