Default Gravel routes (roads) in and around Gauteng

    Hey guys,

I'm new here. Got my first 4x4 a month ago, a Jimny. Took 'Fin' (white Jimny = stormtrooper) for his first gravel experience today- on the R401, just off the R560- between the R512 and R563. It was phenomenal, well according to my standards. Travelled 80km/h on gravel for the first time and left an X3 in my dust (that's for all the beemas that whiz past me robot to robot)...

    Anywho, I digress.

Guys (and gals), could you please recommend gravel routes (roads) in and around Gauteng?

I don't mean 4x4 trails like Groenkloof or Hennops. But rather, simple (or less simple) gravel roads. Will be great if the road leads to something of interest or is part of a scenic drive (my drive way, the N14, and dodgy roads in Sandton don't count).

    Thanks,

    2016 Suzuki Jimny (standard)

Why do you want to travel on gravel roads? Take the jimny where it belongs, on a 4x4 trail....

I'll definitely be heading for Hennops, Groenkloof, Bass Lake etc... 'Fin' needs steel underpants first- radial cup and transfer case protectors (and I need to learn how NOT to dirty my underpants )...

I'd also like to go on roads 'less travelled'... Explore and discover. BUT I'd like to avoid, as much a possible, gravel roads that only stretch 1 or 2 kms and reach a dead end, or worst yet, roads that lead to Oom G sitting on his private farm with a rifle in hand.

You can try Maanhaarrand pass. Itís not in Gauteng anymorebut itís not too far from Centurion/Krugerdorp. Itís a badly maintained gravelroad over the Magaliesberg, just west of Mountain Sanctuary Park.
A whole network of gravel roads connect to it from the southernside. You can take the R99(gravel road) south-west of Hekpoort which will lead you there.

Is it not Breedtnek pass? I always take it when we go to Buffelspoort. Very nice for a casual drive and good scenery.

There are some nice gravel roads around the Vaal dam area, kept us busy for a day. Just go where your heart takes you

Starts at Haarties via Breedsnek view of Magaliesburg by passing Rustenburg all on gravel.

He is away from home. .ie Rustenburg attending a very intense course in Gauteng for 1 month.
I know the swotting is driving him crazy.
