    Lightbulb 2.8tdi Fixed

    Hi everyone.

My colt recently broke down with a cracked head.I was quite worried about the costs involved.I found a guy in primrose that specialise with mitsubishi. His name is Rui.He's worked for mitsubishi for 11 years so know these vehicles like the back of his hand.Any info needed he would be the guy to contact. He also imports his own parts so spares are cheap by him.My colt has been fixed and cost was very low compared with othe places not to mention the 1 year unlimited milage quarantee that comes with it. To have my whole engine fixed ie:New head, rings, big end bearings, fix oil leaks, clean injectors, new valve stem seals, new timing chain and timing chain sprocket, all gaskets, obviously oil,air filter, oil filter and diesel filter, service radiator and new water pump, cost me R11000.I then had a extra leave spring put on the back and had the leaf springs retentioned.new shox front and back.New ball joints top and bottom, new alternator and odds and ends fixed which brought the total to just under R20000.This guy really knows what he is talking about when it comes to mitsubishi. His office number is 0118720323 and cell 0833992797.He also mentioned about changing my boost from .7bar to 1 bar when I bring it back for the 1000km service. He's colt has been modified and boosts 1.2 bar.he keeps up with 1.9 tdi polo's.I dont drive my car hard and after the first head crack i've installed a EGT gauge and also turbo boost gauge which all add to knowing how the vehicle is running. There is a light at the end of the tunnel after all.

    Hi,

I'm new to this site, but it seems a good contact to have thanks.

I enjoy my Clubcab 2.8tdi, just cruise, not in a rush it has power when needed, I honestly do not want to dice any vehicle with it, O.K maybe push a taxi or 2 out of the way would be great every now and then..

It seems a common problem on the mitsubishi for cracked heads, is this from the thermostat being faulty?

The probelm was/is the head itself up untill 2002 models
Just do a search for heads in the mitsu section.
there is a replacement head that can be fitted

No, the thermostat regulates the 'wet' side of the cooling system.

The problem with the 4m40 heads are that they sometimes crack due to excessive EGTs (Exhaust Gas Temperature).

Do searches on 'EGT' and 'AMC' for more background.

I had to do my 2.8's head last week. Bought the head at Parts for Africa in Krugersdorp.

    Cylinder Head : R2900
Labour : R5511(including injector tips, glow plugs)

R8411 and my Colt is running nicely again

The work was done by Izak v Niekerk pretoria (0123351870)

Does anyone know if i should get the diesel pump calibrated? Its not smoking at all and has lots of power

If the thermostat becomes faulty, the head will heat up because no water passes through the head, then either the head blows or can obviously crack.
    What does AMC stand for?
    How can EGT be prevented?
What would the general km's be on the 4m40 before it blows or can it happen at any ungiven time?
    Thanks, I will do searches.

AMC is the Spanish manufacturer of heads for most popular engines.

Is there a way I can tell between the original head, and the spanish AMC head?

Maurice1984, sorry for hijacking your thread.

Heads should have either 'AMC' or 'MMC' cast into them, I suppose?
