2.5tdi 2001 ranger

Morning,yesterday whilst driving in 5th at about 90 a rattle or tappet noise started,I immediately stopped and che ked but could find anything .The oil was fine and all belts in place.I started again and drove slowly and increased speed through each gear but when in 5th the rattle started again.Only 5th and not always. I contacted ford and was told the gearbox is done with so need a new one at R 17590 .Problem is I am supposed to drive back to jhb tomorrow from the coast.One mechanic says drive no problem and the other says don't.

drive back but stay out of fifth. Leave earlier, drive slower, listen to some good music.
