Prado Dash Cracks

Hi There,

I am based in the Western Cape and would like to know if anyone knows where I can have my Prado Dash re-done. I have just purchased the vehicle and noticed some cracks.

Hi Yaseen. The Prado dashboard cracks are quite common. I had the 1st crack plastic welded and it looked ok. The second weld was a mess. I had the whole dashboard then redone by Leather Tek, which did a great job (see picture). They took 3 days and it costed me R2300 - still much cheaper then a new dash. I see on the internet that they have a branch in Parow.

my prado developed some minor cracks which I would like to get fixed. I called Leathertek who confirmed they no longer do that on Prado's since they have to re-skin the entire dash which will affect the operation of the airbag. Are there other options apart form reskinning? One of the threads mentions plastic weld with a pattern template applied to it... not sure how effective this would be..

This used to be a big problem with MUCH older vehicles - way back.

I seriously thought that with the modern materials available it had been solved !

When once sun / heat damaged though I am not sure what you could do except to replace the original covering, since any other repair would be very temporary if the basic material used is not UV resistant in the first place.

Use a sunscreen on the windscreen when the vehicle is parked outdoors - it does help.

I would say that most modern vehicles no longer have this issue ??

What about a dash cover with some handy storage space to "cover" the problem. I had an Escape Gear cover in the Hilux and it was quite handy. Will see it I have a picture.

Yes - am strongly considering it - problem is most of the cracks are on the bottom half of the dash which the cover wont cover...
