Thanks for an entertaining report Peter. The CKGR has a special place in our hearts.

When we passed through in mid-January central Botswana looked very dry. However there were subsequently some big downpours and hopefully the whole area will green up again. I think the rains may be late this year again and perhaps those visiting from next month onwards will strike a bonanza!

    Hi Peter,
    nice report. Love your humor.
Of course, pics of you guys in the mud with the ladies rescuing would have been the crust on the cake... . ;-)
I am so glad, we only have 12 days left until Kori.

I was surprised about the amount of fuel, the Land Cruiser took.
Usually we have one of those 2.5 liter Hilux and it does 1400 km on a 150 liter Tank easily - even in the CKGR - the, of course, we never had much mud, even in February.

    Cheers
    Christian

    Hi Guys

Thanks for your kind words are responses. Those departing soon, enjoy you are in for a very 'green' special time.

JanCoene, the only tip I can give is to do as much research on this site as possible. There is loads of great information, one has to patiently search and read, and then read some more. That is a epic journey you are undertaking, have a blast.

Merwe Erasmus, you have no idea, but my wife insisted I report it

RossJ, I was thrilled to get that image.

Mr Weakley welcome back, I still got some catching up to do on slow donkey.

PATn WOLF, hope you got sorted with the file. Thanks for the kind words.

chvogel, The land cruiser was a thirsty beast, and I might have overstated rather than understated the consumption, the mud and weight on the in journey also added to the consumption, enjoy your trip.

Rik, it just had to be.

I hope the rest of you that were having problems with the attachment came right. If not let me know.

hi kirkfort-(or any other travellers with info)
im unable to open your trip report, but hope you can give me some advice on the fuel issue
we are doing the matswere khutse crossing in july over 7 nights(2 deception,2 piper,1bape and 2 khutse)
our vehicles will be 1 navara diesel,1 isuzu d tech,1 prado 3 l diesel and my cruiser 100 turbodiesel
my need is really info on the cruisers fuel requirements
i get 7,3 km per liter on normal road conditions, but of course during the trip it will be heavier as well as travelling through the sand
my plan is to have 250 liters diesel in total
    any advice will be appreciated
    regards
    cederberg

Hi Cederburg, hopefully the PDF file now works.
I don't know the total mileage you are doing, but I averaged around 18l per 100km. We were heavily loaded going in and did encounter quite a lot of water and mud crossings. As mentioned in the report I used around 170 litres for a total of 980km. My estimates are maybe slightly overestimated so please don't take this as written in stone.
I am sure should you do some more research on this very valuable site you will find more accurate fuel consumption figure.

Pietsweis, It is an African Wildcat which is a unique sighting all the same. A black footed cat would have been even more unique. Hope you can now read the report.

Great report Peter, thank you. Great to know that even the mighty Toys get stuck in black cotton soil too. You mentioned 5L water per day, did your beer intake match this too ? You do know you can get wine here in 5L boxes also Fantastic that the Ladies got to spend time in an unfenced camp, you are right. Do it now, we do not know for how long it will be available.
Lusted for a Landy but the Pajero was sexier and bigger in the right departments, just like my Missus.
