I would check the negative earth. Check if its tight on the body/engin.

Hi Everyone
I have a 2009 Hilux 3.0 D4D with 240 000km. I have been experiencing a problem with the electronics.
The first time it happened I flashed someone and all the electronics went off, the engine was still running. The second time, I was driving at night and when I braked, or left the throttle the lights would dim, as well as the dash lighting. And also when I used an indicator the lights would flash with the indicator.
The radio also has problems, like it would work and then it wouldn't. The cd player works, but sometimes goes off for a few seconds at a time.
I took it in to Toyota but they could not find a problem. They cleaned the connections or something, then it was fine for a while. It started happening again though.
Does anyone have an idea what it could be?
Thanks
Hendri

Thanks, I will have a look
May seem like a strange question, but are you the first owner of the Hilux?
If not, do you have a comprehensive history for it? I'm thinking things like possible water damage due to river crossings, or regular launching a boat from a slipway and reversing too far into the sea etc.
Insurance industry are able to pull up a full claim history using the VIN.
Also, Check all the Wiring from the Trailer Plug to where it's spliced into the Car's wiring harness.
What you're describing sounds like a short.
.
I am the second owner, I don't have the history. I will see what I can find out. thanks
Thanks, I will check the wiring from the trailer plug.
