    Angry chev 2.5 carburetor

    Afternoon all
need some help with a carburetor for the chev 2.5 1974 model.
Had the 36 dcd reconditioned at carburetor ace 2 months ago and with the holidays i found it a little heavy on juice-very heavy actually. From JHB to Upington it used 215 liters of petrol.
I don't want to go back to that company cause they will send me straight to JAIL.
What other alternative carburetor can i buy to put on that motor.
There is nothing wrong with the motor or head or timing that was all repaired at a professional chev workshop in Main road,Roodepoort.
    Would appreciate your help
Thanks and have a prosperous 2016

How many kms - 1400? Thats very thirsty.. should be around 8-12km/l highway average, do you have a comparison from another carb? What was your vehicle weight (loaded?) and was your tire pressure good? The inline 6s are a bit thirsty (unless you are coasting around 80 lol) - what was yr average speed? .. and im not sure about the 36 but I know the 38 dcd are also thirsty.. You might be better of going to a 32/36, smaller primary will probably increase torque and give better economy, esp in town..

Can you send a picture of the carb (without air filter).. and possibly what jets they put in?

    Cheerio -

    Hi Camaroman
It is a 4 cylinder. But i have found out what the problem is.
The kombi was a bit overweight.531kg to be exact and with the groceries and extra water plus gas bottle,2x 38 kg glass mat batteries, solar panels, steel square tubing roof carrier etc.
Have now removed everything and starting over.
My gearbox is too small (1600)for that big motor.Took it for a test drive after removing the whole interior and what a difference.
Thanks for your input but I'm in the process of replacing the gearbox from a 2 liter model as well as the motor with a 3y engine cause that model Chev motor is a high compression low rev motor and it came out of a Nomad and the setup i need is just the other way around(and the nomads was heavy on juice.
    Thanks

Ok great.. Even still overloaded 5.5 km / lt is terrible! You should match your cruise speed with your cams power band, the 6 are torquey, so maybe change diff ratio.. Anyway sounds like you have a plan
