I asked if these guys knew what they were doing. Paul said he was using Ray Bans for a mask. Here is hoping. Disco still going, but they on a tar road. Holding thumbs.

This was to weld the back of the chassis back on. Worst roads encountered so far. Since then the shock has broken free again, so they soldiering on, as there is still a chance at the record, even with the 8hr stop. They have just driven within 6 blocks of the Splendid Hotel in Burkina Faso.

They into Nigeria. They say the roads are vile, and so are the road users. They hope to be out of Nigeria before dark today. The fact that the RH shock absorber mount is torn off the chassis, isn't making it easy to keep the speed up. To repair it apparently will require some serious welding work, possibly an extra doubler brace, as the point where it secures on the chassis, is now in the spares kit with the shock!!

The welding on the chassis has failed again in Mamfe, Cameroon. Now to find a decent welder.

The second weld is holding. It was done in Mamfe, Cameroon. Unfortunately the record is out of the window for now, and it is a case of don't give up, keep going. There is a problem now getting from Gabon into the Congo. Weekends and borders don't mix. May have to detour a few hundred kilometers to find a crossing.

You can accept mechanical or structural breakdown, but to be held at a border for 23 hrs, just because some important chief didn't come to work, this is the dude that must stamp your passport into the DRC, that is taking the p. It is hard rocking and rolling up the Congo river at the moment until they cross, and then it is another border crossing into Angola, Namibia and finally SA.

After 10 hrs of slogging from the DRC border into Angola, they are on good tar roads near Nzeto, and averaging 60MPH. All holding together.

Yeah, they tried to make it before it closed, but that became impossible with the road conditions in Angola. They unable to give it a bit more because the chassis is in a serious state of disrepair! It has been welded 3 times, so goung over the rough tracks kills them. Fortunately it should be a run for home now, and hit Cape Town tomorrow.

Well, the speed indicator on the tracker looks rather bleak.

I know Northern Namibia roads are all tar and lot's of long distance taxis are speeding along, but even 30 mph looks slow.

There should be quite a few. I am expecting them to get in by midday tomorrow, to the Mount Nelson Hotel. Please, if you able to, go and greet them when they come in.
