Post Freelander leaky AC drain hose fix

    08 Freelander 2

After a lengthy drive with the AC on I noticed a trickle of water on the passenger side rubber matt. Further investigation revealed that the carpets below the floor matts were wet and I found the previous owner had put an air-scent below the dash (possibly to hide dank odour). More searching revealed the drivers side matt was also wet.

A quick search on Freel2.com suggested an AC hose could be the issue, either popped off or blocked. It was the AC drain hose. Here's my process of fixing it.

    1) Remove both plastic panels on either side of the footwell below the dash, there should be a screw at the highest point towards the front of the car and then some pop clips that let go with a tug. The panel on the passenger side isn't necessary but it showed me where the pollen filter cover is on the engine side of this panel, I opened that for a giggle and found one nasty pollen filter.

this wasn't stopping gunk getting through anymore and i'm sure the primary reason the drain pipe got clogged.

    2) Removing the panel on the Drivers side shows the White flexible rubber drain hose and where it connects to below the AC box.

    3) Pull away the carpet to see more. In mine you can actually see water dribbling down the metal work.

    4) Pull the pipe off it's 'L' Shaped connector. I put a towel in place to catch any excess water.

    5) In my case the 'L' shaped connector was glued in place, the tabs that clip it to the car had broken off. It was full of gunk and leaves. I flushed it out reconnected it and glued it back in place.

I left the car open to try dry off the carpets.

You can't actually see the AC drain from below the vehicle, it drips through a chassis member.

I've had no further water in the footwell issues since. You'll notice some rusting on various metal bits in the photos. I think this water issue had been around long before I was.

Photobucket killed the photo links. I’ve pulled them off. Will try embed them another way.

There is a Chrome extension that sorts that out.

    Tell me more...
An extension that allows one to embed new images into 4x4comm or one that bypasses the Photobucket paywall?

You can already embed right here, no need to use an external site. I have fixed the first post.

The extension fix it on any website where there are Photobucket hotlink warnings.

Thanks for this post. I had exactly the same problem. Seems to be sorted now. I know it's an old thread, but thanks for detailing the process, with pictures. Helped a lot. My cabin pollen filter was super mif too.

Thanks for this write up and detailed photos.

Went on Holiday the past weekend and with the ac on full the passenger side footwell was full of water. Easily emptied a liter of water each time after a long drive.
Cleaned the L-shape pipe on Monday, it was full of dirt. If I knew it was so easy I would have done it while on Holiday. 10 min job.
