Your top camping spots close to GP

So SWAMBO and I recently started the camping thing in earnest after purchasing our Echo 4 in November. So far we have done a 2-week trip to Sodwana and Ponta de Ouro and a weekend at Weesgerus and are planning a West Coast trip in March.

Since we're planning to do a weekend's camping at least once a month, I wanted to hear from the experienced campers, what would you recommend as your top 3 best camping spots within 2 hours of Gauteng/Pretoria.

We like it rough

but for now have no solar so there needs to be power points. Preferably lekker off-road to get there. We have no kids.

Your inputs would be appreciated gentlemen (and ladies).

Thanks Kortgat, I had a look at your suggestions. They all look great. We had a look at the 4 x 4 camp at Sondela for our last trip but there are no power points as far as I'm aware? Sorry, from that point of view we are still sussie campers because the missus enjoys blow-drying the hair in the morning and what not 8) Does Willemsrus have power points? The setting looks really stunning.

Will also definitely have to do Ezemvelo, looks awesome, thanks!

Yes correct, the Sondela one has no power. Willemsrus has power.

Perhaps buy an inverter for you batteries to run some 220v equipment. Hairdryer will have to stay at home.

We were at Dube the weekend. Very nice. Same league as Sondela in my opinion.

Ok Willemsrus will be seeing us next month. Looks fantastic.

The Echo has an inverter but I'm worried about running the battery down over the weekend. Will however be investing in solar in the near future so will be able to go camp at all the other great spots.

+1 on making this a sticky.

Mogatle has nice camping and a great 4X4 experience.
Electrical points easily accessible.
Serendipity also has nice camping with electrical points and nice 4X4 facilities.

Pilansberg if you want electricity.

Prefer Bakgatla (caravan section right against the fence) to the normal camping section or Manyane.

Showers are a bit suspect at present with the water restrictions (very low water flow) but things are pretty desperate there right now.

Dube is a must.
Soetdoring ook baie awesome maar Dube baie beter.
Ezemvelo baie awesome, baie rustic, rustig en nie baie om te doen nie. Baie ape wat gamok maak in jou tent. Was twee keer die jaar daar. Swambo kan ook nie sonder n haardroer oor die weg kom nie en dit het my gekos om krag in die trailer te sit
