Thank you very much, really appreciate it. I'll try that

OK – I finally got the details from my snap filling station mate

Problem: Primary: smell of exhaust in the cabin
Secondary: starting difficulty, rough idle, reduced engine performance was erratic (had a flat spot), reduced fuel economy
At what KM did it happen: 19464
What did you do: He took it to Tokai Renault (aka Tokai Multifranchise)
Response from Renault: verbal quote starting at R1400 with no date of return
Was it fixed with a smile or did you have issues? Issues - voided warranty as he placed some Holt’s fire gum on the exhaust manifold to EGR flex pipe joint where he noticed soot (It was the weekend, Tokai Renault wasn’t open and he had to be in the Cedarberg on Monday. The fire gum did not stop the smell.)
What was the result: He took his vehicle to someone he felt more comfortable with. They found that the EGR solenoid valve was frozen solid. They surmised that this caused pressure on these “funny” French clamps that didn’t hold the pressure. Tokai Renault said that a new flex pipe, Renault Kit # 8201057571R, with the two clamps must be ordered at R1200. After 12 days, Tokai Renault contacted his shop and said that it was now on backorder with no expected date of delivery. My mate then ordered the two clamps (Renault clamp alone, possibly: 8200102150, 4619037 or 30010586) online and they were delivered from Poland in three days.

According to the installer, the clamps need to be seated correctly off the vehicle and the whole thing (exhaust manifold and EGR housing) needs to be installed together. The flex pipe is only necessary to allow for the different expansion rates of the exhaust manifold’s and EGR housing’s metals (then, why does it leak?).

He is actually glad his warranty is voided because no one now can think they can tell him he can’t have this size tyre or install that running board, etc.

Oh! He also says that he has put off at least one potential Renault client due to Renault SA’s lack of spares in South Africa.

Problem: Right front side shaft seal leaking
At what KM did it happen: From around 25000
What did you do: Reported it to dealer before service.
Response from Renault: Assisted without issues but waited for stock
Was it fixed with a smile or did you have issues?: With a smile
What was the result: Seal fitted as soon as stock arrived +-2 weeks

Problem: Brake fluid leaking from reservoir when parked downhill
At what KM did it happen: From around 5000
What did you do: Reported it to dealer before service.
Response from Renault: Inspected and found no problem
Was it fixed with a smile or did you have issues?: Not fixed
What was the result: Upon my own inspection it was found the breather hole in the reservoir cap will leak if not properly torqued.
Ironically if the cap is torqued tightly the breather hole moves from the intended 12h position to 3h for example.
Fix is to cut a thin gasket of same OD and ID, place behind OEM gasket to get the correct position of breather hole when torqued.
Took me two beers to figure out.

Problem: Gear lever reverse actuator broken, the little spring that returns lever to forward gears is missing
At what KM did it happen: From around 35000
What did you do: Reported it to dealer before service.
Response from Renault: Will fix at next service
Was it fixed with a smile or did you have issues?: Maybe
What was the result: Not yet

I've heard of the power steering sweating on the cap, but not a problem with the brake reservoir leaking. Thanks for sharing the fix.

    Good day
I need to replace my rear shocks. Dealer quoted me R3000 and something. Now I would like to know what my other options are?

    Default Renault Duster Shocks

Original shocks usually don't last more than 50k kms and cost more than Monroe.

I still have one service left for duster, dealer told me if i put the monroe shocks my warranty will expire. i told them i have 30 000km on and the shocks are finish, now they force me to buy the crappy shocks again.
PLAN = put the monroe on keep originals and before service will put them back on the car then just swop them after service, do the balance and alignment again

Problem - Did my wheel alignment and was told spacers at the back was also required
At what KM did it happen - 15600
What did you do - Took it to TWT in Centurion
Response from Renault - Should have touched base with then but did not
Was it fixed with a smile or did you have issues? - R1800 I was not smiling
What was the result - Two days later I was in a car accident so hopefully while at the panel beaters they wil check and confirm that it is still fine

Does anyone know where I can possibly get hold of a sump guard, bash plate for my 2016 1.5dci 4x2

Thanks GHOER. I now have 114447km on and still haven't replaced my shocks. Kan rrally feel that it's finished and neefs replacing. Other than that I've only had a faulty door lock and a glo-plug light that came on and the Dusty lost power, so far. No other complaints or issues.
    I'm happy so far!

Is that 14.4kml after you have applied the correction factor for the tyre size difference?

Duster Jack- what was the solution to the glow plug light, the loss of power was probably "limp mode"
