I used Peter's driving school. Polo with trailer GVM of 840kg. Nice and small trailer with rails like the ones you use to move furniture. It is smaller and lighter than my camping trailer. Did it in KwaMhlanga. I was also amazed that the trailer is so small. But it has run in brakes and bigger axel. Specially designed for EB license. Did the learners in May last year and never got time to do the license. Made an appointment for 14 Des and got it first time. 2 days before going on holiday just to be safe

As a follow up - since my last post in this thread I have passed the EC driving licence with my first try.
Test was very easy: Pre-trip inspection, incline start, alley docking and straight reverse is all you do in the yard. Then a short drive around some suburb roads and you're done...

I went for about 7 lessons in total and hired a normal trailer to practice alley docking and straight reversing with my bakkie for a Saturday as that helps a lot.

    Hi

I'm confused. Not in general, just about the EC1 license.

All the government websites state that an EC1 license is only for vehicles exceeding 3500 kg and below 16000kg.

    https://www.gov.za/services/driving-...riving-licence
    http://www.transport.gov.za/web/depa...riving-licence

There is also this article, albeit quite old:

    https://www.news24.com/southafrica/p...ences-20101130

Is it then worth while do obtain an EC1 license if you plan to tow with a "light" vehicle, i.e. any vehicle below 3500 kg?
