    Default Yet another trailer build

I have decided to build my own trailer, can not afford a new one and got a lot of material lying around.

First time round, it will be a big learning curve.

Will post pictures as I progress........

That looks super strong and heavy. Are you using a braked axle?

How are you going about the licensing?

At the moment it has a Burquip 2.5T unbraked axle. Will replace it next year with a braked axle.
It should not be to heavy, the chassis is 100 x 75 lipped channel, frame 32sq tubing x 1.6mm and other plate is 1.2mm.

Licensing....just keep all the slips and take it from there I hope!!

Nice job Supra! Looks strong and well designed. Are you going to add a nose box?

    I agree, It looks good.
It would probably be a good idea to "brake" it sooner rather than later...

Thank you and yes Platjan, busy with the design of the nose cone.
Want to make it out of aluminium and maybe add some isolation to it for an extra cooler box.

Looking good! Are you going to add a trailer top tent to it? If so, I would make a solid top, no lid as it becomes very heavy with the tent on top. Then add more door access from the sides/back to compensate. Also then look at the trailer height requirement of the tent you intend to use as they do differ between brands (1.3m-1.6m).

I am adding a tent, got some beefy shocks to help me lift the top. But I'm pretty sure the top will hardly ever get used, it is just for a backup.
Total height at the moment is about 1.4m. I still have to design a carrier for the tent.

Good idea, that will help with access during the internal build. I always need to put drawer frames etc together in side as the door openings will be too small.
If I could, I would have made my carrier in such a way to be able to store a table or something in there. Now, mine is just dead space...

    Glad to help.
I would also recommend you give yourself something inside, where you intend to run electrical cabling, to attach the cables with cable ties. I used these square plastic clips with the double sided tape that you put the cable ties through, regularly used in electrical panels. when the trailer gets hot in the sun they all fall off .

    Nice going there!!!

Also did mine some time back, so good luck.

My biggest issue was the door seals. I tried the flat rubber strips, but that did not work too well for dusty roads.
I have now changed to round rubber, but I had to do loads extra to make it work.

I made the tent mount directly onto the trailer roof.
No1 complaint I hear is that wind is coming though between the tent floor and the trailer roof.
This give me extra 200mm height inside the trailer.

Do you have a tent yet?
I hated where the trailer tent is not 100% simmetrical on the trailer, but only afterwards figured out the mud guard might be an issue when the tent is open.
Had to have the tent cut inside to fix this afterwards.

Also have a good look at tent openings and your trailer doors. Does not help you have doors but cannot open them because the tent is in the way.

I put my fridge inside the trailer, so at night I can have a drink without opening the tent

It is a process, so enjoy !!!

    Awesome build!

Good luck with the licensing. i just had a morning from hell trying to fix the GVM of my trailer that ive just purchased.

During my running around i found that NRCS will do a compliancy test on your build at a cost of R1800. Keep the pictures coming!
