Default Fiat FullBack coming to Africa

It may be better looking than most chinese knock-offs, but these guys are bit overly optimistic...

    "
Move over Toyota Hilux, Fiat is coming
There’s a new bakkie coming to the market, the Fiat Fullback.

    By Staff Writer - November 12, 2015 18 Comments

Fiat has unveiled its first-ever#double-cab bakkie, the Fullback.

The double-cab was shown off at the Dubai Motor Show, and is “closely related to the Mitsubishi Triton”, according to Autoblog.

The Fullback is powered by a 2.4-litre turbo diesel engine, available in 111kW/150hp or 134kw/180hp variants. Drivers can choose either a six-speed manual or five-speed automatic version, while four-wheel drive comes standard.

“Fiat will roll out the Fullback in markets across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, where it will compete against the likes of the Toyota Hilux, Ford Ranger, and Volkswagen Amarok,” stated the report."

But, it's basically a re-badged "old" Mitsubishi Triton...
Is Fiat then thinking that the "new" Triton is not worth competing against?

I think people will rather buy the "new" Triton than the "old" Fiat - although there was nothing wrong with the "old" Triton. Badge snobbery is a reality in South Africa

    Here it is...

Their success depends very much on how deep their marketing budget is and at what discount they will sell it.

Toyota has been advertising like crazy this past year and that surely had boyed the sales of the Hilux and the Fortuner. Prado ads were rather few and far between.

Nissan SA has for decades had very poor marketing and it shows in their sales.

Shouldn't the double cab be called the half-back, and the single cab the Fullback?

Not talking about quality. Talking about the designs and the ZA model availability.

Everything looks the same and their entry level sedans are horrible.

Also, Nissan ZA sommer refuses to sell some models that available in the rest of Africa.

Makes perfect sense. DC=Leisure more road biased for the average consumer.
SC more likely to be used in working/farm/forestry/mining role, hence muds
    or someone just screwed up

I watched Mega factories on discovery the other night, Tata is apparently a very rich company. Their goal in india is to make the small entry level Tatas affordable enough to target the traditional scooter market . They design a car and build it, then they get a team to see where can they save money and use less parts. By fusing 2 or 3 parts together as 1 assembly and then mould it, they saved on the workforce of 2 extra works stations and labourers. No wonder some of these cars are so crappy.

So why would I buy a Mitsubishi rebadged as a Fiat when I can just buy a Mitsu? I cannot see them dropping the price too much for the Fiat, as Mitsu will lose sales.

Default Fiat FullBack coming to Africa

So, all this Fiat Fullback is, is a new Triton, with the best part (The MitsuBishi 3 diamond badge) removed & a FIAT badge fitted in it's place?

Because nothing makes you feel better when driving a Japanese Niche' pickup, than having a badge on the nose claiming it was made in
"The Italian Automobile Factory of Turin"

I suppose it will help Mitsubishi sell more than the usual woeful amount of bakkies.
It will help Fiat bring out a decent truck,
it will give the poor Mitsubishi guys another spares outlet option, because Imperial are not great...

    Well, it depends...

I suspect the FIAT will not be the full spec Triton, in which case one would still rather buy the Mitsu.
