    Default Rivnuts Problems on Trailer

I am busy with some modifications on my trailer and looking for a company / engineering works in Gauteng area that can fit normal size Rivnuts for me into aluminium square tubing.

Will be grateful for any info.

You can buy the tool... Last time I checked, Makro had the cheapest DIY tool at around R400.

The industrial tools are very expensive...

What size do you rate as normal, I've used 4,5and 6mm for general purpose fixing. Toset the rivnuts is easy you just need the setter tool that you can buy from makro or adendorfs. Up to 6mm the hand tool works well but from 8mm up you need some more persuasion.

I have had too many rivnuts turning. So now I use wurth ratchet rivnut set. They are on special for 2995.

I hate a rivnut. I even bought that big thing that can pull the 8mm rivnuts. But as Herman says, they turn.

Eventually I just use a flat piece of steel on the back, with nuts welded on.

Guys I did buy the cheap tool from Makro maar hy werk nie. Those Rivuts turns like a All Black scrum before half time that's why I want to take it to someone with the correct tools. It is only 5mm Rivnuts I need to set.

Henk do you have a tool the trailer is coming to you afterwards for the canvas kitchen still need to make a appointment with Jenny ?

We have used this a lot on all kinds of aplications. On sheetmetal we added some epoxy glue to the collar part of the nut. On thicker material, use a high grade lockset. This was for rivnuts where the bolts are being removed often for inspection panels etc. They never came loose.

Rivnuts should not be smooth they should have splines on them to prevent turning, and should be seated firmly in place

I can set 6mm for you no problem, drill a 9mm hole and pull it until it squeaks

Rivnuts do not work well on Aluminium, the material is to soft, any stress will cause it to stretch and work loose.

Go and buy a pneumatic pop riveter from Adendorfs and make a couple of tools that will work in that head. Then you pull them with the pop riveter
