    Smile time for upgrade

    Hi everybody
Its time to swop my clubcab colt 2.8 for a dubble cab. I got my hart on a Nissan hardbody 3.0td 4x4. I even have money set aside for a total engin overhaul. I'm looking in the R 120 000 range. Is this a good idée? I wont be 4x4 as a pass time but will travel to Namibia and Mozambique. Any tips.
Ps. I did research and LOVE the hardbody

I did but to get a 2.5 double cab 4X4 is difficult. Even the np300 is still a bit expensive

Wow, ur buddy really got a bargain. It was a hard choice for me. It was between a ford 2.5 or hardbody3.0 but decided on the hardbody.

The Ford/Mazda 2.5 has a real quality durable engine but its 5 speed manual gearbox has serious issues. My fishing buddies with them who tow their boats regularly have 5th going , and some with the new 6 speed trans have also had problems. In contrast the Nissan has a real workhorse box.

Yes never tow in 5th when your driving n Mazda or ford. Am i correct in saying that Nissan parts are more expensive than ford? I'm planing to overhaul engine just to be on the safe side. My buddie works at a engineering shop. I just dont want issues when I'm in the middle of nowhere.

Just don't get the pre-2004 model of the 3.0 16v ZD30. They had serious issues with the ECU and fuel pump that earned that version of the engine the name of "The Grenade".

Yes def want to get 2005+. But to find a ZD30 4x4 is difficult. People dont want to sell them and that says something...

I cannot answer that question about parts prices but in keeping with all makes genuine parts are ridiculously expensive , but the Hardbody has lots of aftermarket bits and pieces available. My neighbours who run a large farming unit and only use Fords (tractors and bakkies) don't like the 3.2 manual Ford, they say it's heavy on fuel and has had transmission issues so being diehard Ford guys they are replacing the 3.2 with the 2.2. By the way one of my fellow church members who has a 1996 Mazda 2.5 manual 4x4 has had a major gearbox failure and he never tows, just trundles around on tar roads in 2wd, the repair was R22500 Ouch!
