Post URGENT - Should I buy a Jeep Cherokee??

Hi guys, I will really appreciate your input here.

I have found a low mileage (69,000 km's) Jeep Cherokee 2.8 CRD 4 year old car in pristine condition, almost unbelievably pristine. There are no signs of 4x4 damage underneath, upholstery and interior is perfect, no visible oil leaks, it has loads of power and drives beautifully.

The only thing I couldn't really test was the Fuel Consumption - this is one of the big warning bells everybody has told me about - can any other Jeep Cherokee 2.8 CRD drivers share your experiences or fuel consumptions?

The other warnings I got were about spares and repairs - spares being scarce, with long delivery times and very expensive. Can you guys share your experiences around spares, servicing and where in Joburg are recommended non-OEM service and repair places.

    Thanks

Hi, you don't mention how much?

I was getting a consistant low 11/12L/100km on my old Cherokee. But I was running the GDE tune which I highly recommend. You do not want the EGR dumping dirty exhaust gas back into the engine.

The timing belt is due for a change at 120 000km and is about R12k.

But other than that its a great vehicle and normally extremely good value. I assume yours will be the newer square shape one?

Spares and repairs are no more expensive than any other brand.

Ditto .I get 9.5l/100km on long trip cruising at 115kmh. Spares and service ( with a good Indy) no dearer than our other car a Hyundai Tucson. Great vehicle and if looked after ( service at 10000km) will give years of service. I know of a 2.8 CRD in Eastern Cape with 501000km on the clock with no major issues other than regular servicing and new shocks. Oh yes and 2SO in the tank!

Fantastic! Remember, a Jeep is not a car. A Jeep, Is a Jeep, Is a Jeep.
