Thank you. Is it safe? We are nature lovers, have an off road caravan so we are self sufficient.

In my opinion the rural Transkei is one of the safest areas of SA.
I have never had an incident there (or elsewhere in the Transkei).

camping.... there is no power. But an awesome place for a nature lover.

Be prepared, the monkeys are clever and will invade your camp in search of food. They can open plastic crates and containers.

No, the camping area is behind trees.
When the SW blows, you will be glad!

Been there and stayed in the cottages. Be prepared to walk up many steps to get to a cabin. Camp area is fantastic, saw a few buck walk around the camp area. Close up stuff because of monkeys. Beautiful beach but the locals have stripped the rocks bare in the park. Still it is beautiful.

At the time we wanted to camp there, the grass was knee height, the bathrooms were not cleaned for a considerable time and no hot water. We left in about 15 minutes. This was Februay 2014.

    Question Dwesa December 2015

Heading to Dwesa in December this year. Staying in cabin.
    Any info on freezer/fridge capacity?
Can you buy ice anywhere close by?
    Current Road conditions?

We were there about two years back - lovely natural setting, short walk to the beach. No power, ablutions not in the best of condition but useable. Pleasant staff. Needs a bit of TLC but a lovely place. Many of the "roads" along the Wild Coast are real 4x4 territory - have fun. Yes, we would go back if given the chance.

We will also be there in December. PM me. Maybe whoever is arriving 2nd can bring ice. Craig mentioned that cabins have fridge / freezers but Dwessa booking info says not.

Phone 043 7019600, email: [email protected]. Our cabins had gas fridges, gas geysers. Best is to buy lots of ice before venturing onto the dirt road. I have a rommer cooler box so my ice kept from KWT to Dwesa and back after 5 days. I will look for photos tonight and post here of camping ground, cabins etc

Stayed in dwesa Jun 2014. Amazing place. The cabins are marginally more expensive than the campsites and well worth it. No power, but gas is provided in the cabins for lighting, cooking, hot water and refrigeration. Roads are bad in places but a slingsby map will tell you where its good too. Buy a slingsby wildcoast map, its essential.
