I am going to attempt to adjust my trailer's handbrake this weekend. Any other advise that Pieter left out in the 3rd video?

Hi Platjan, how did your handbrake adjustment exercise go?

Haven't done it yet. Was busy firefighting last weekend, hopefully within the next week or two I will find time.

I changed my wheel bearing a while ago, it wasnt as easy as the video, my bearings dont slip onto the axle so easily, I had to use a bit of hammer force. I have done about 500km on them since the change and it looks fine so far. Will inspect again this weekend

PS - I like this - please continue with the series

How do you know the bearings of the trailer are gone? What are the signs? In a vehicle you can hear or "feel" this. Any advise will be appreciated.

I do two checks to see if my bearings is still fine.

    1. Before a trip I jack up the trailer and spin the wheel. I then listen for scratching, if there is scratching - replace. If there is no scratching, I then grab the wheel with both hands and try to wiggle it from side to side. If there is excessive play, and the castle nut is still in place, I replace the bearings.

    2. While towing I stop after 50km and feel with my hand against the center of the trailer's rim if it is getting very hot. It will get warm, but you will immediately know if it is excessive heat. If the heat is still fine after the first 50km I only check it again when I stop at a filling station or at our destination. I know there are people that stop every 50km and check.

Maybe some of the more experienced towers can give advice.

I bought an infrared digital thermometer and check both wheels near the hub every hour or 2. It showed up a developing problem, saving me a lot of trouble.

Did the handbrake adjustment months ago, and it was really easy. Recently came across a pdf file from Alko that works great with the video. First watch the video and then look at file.

Updated post 1 with a link to the pdf file.
