Plain & simple. The full impact hits you a bit later.

So I left that oncologist and found another who came highly recommended.
And here I am today, a bit over 4 years later with no current issues.
Doctors are not all are the same, and sometimes you yourself might be able to influence the outcome.
    That is wonderful

I have a sit-down scheduled with the Oncologist for tomorrow. I'll see what his opinion is on that stat.

    Hehe... definitely an option.
The way I see it is there can be no bad news in his answer.

Your task is to visit him in 10 years and say "what now?"

According to his oncologist a friend of mine's prognosis was <3 years.

He had a cake in the shape of Charlie Brown showing a "brown-eye" baked and walked into the oncologists office to personally hand it over.

    10 years later.

Your mentioning of Charlie B reminded me of this pic of the little guy.
It really meant a lot to me - might even have played a part in my recovery.

This forum had so many encouraging messages for me, that I think an update is only fair.
    I'm feeling really good.
The treatment recommended by my Oncologist is hormone therapy, which is an injection every three months, and a "receptor blocker". The idea is to not produce any food for the cancer (the injection), but even more so, to also wire up the cancer's jaws (the blockers). Before this treatment could start, they had me on a hormone therapy pill for almost two weeks. This was to "soften the blow" for when we unleashed the big guns. Apparently going straight onto the blockers will produce severe pain where the cancer has chewed into the bone. In any event, I was prepared for some discomfort. Not to be, not even slightely. I got the injection on the Monday and started the the blocker pills on the Tuesday morning, by Wednesday my wife wanted to know if I'm on energy tablets. I simply felt so much more energetic. I'm convinced it's not placebo, because I was noticing my drop in energy even before my recent diagnosis and simply considered it a function of age and had said to myself that I needed a proper exercise regime, as opposed to the haphazard way I was going about it. I consider this noticeable uptic in energy as a very positive indicator of what is happening to the cancer.
We'll be running another PSA test next Friday, to compare my newfound energy with actual numbers. I'm pretty confident that things will look good.
This high-energy-me couldn't come at a better time; we are packing up our home to move into a 2 bedroom flat in town and into a 2 bedroom house in a retirement village in a hot-spring holiday resort. At the same time I'm working with an architect on our little sea cottage and started talking to builders down there. No time to run out of energy or harbour negative thoughts about the future.
