I think Donovan did something like that - is it a ultra laid-back sound, sung fairly low-key?

Indeed I do. I have every single album they released, and a few others released by Roger, David and Syd

Vallies... your annoying me with that song! I have it in my MP3 collection somewhere but can't find it....

    It's not Donovan

But has some of the words like

    "your skin is so wet"

    and

"cold ice cream taken with a sticky spoon"

    in it.

It was released about the same time as "video killed the radio star"

    Simon,
That is the one, I have 180GB of MP3 music, but a lot doesn't have names, it is Track 01 ect, so to do a search doesn't gain anything.
If you manage to find it would it be possible to share it with me - I'll really appreciate it.
Ps. I didn't mean to annoy you, I'm actually annoying myself cause I just won't let it go.

Don't worry Dries, those young 'uns will probably have never heard of these, but that's their loss!

Pat Boone - Hup A Lazy River,

    followed by:

    Pat Boone - Yes Indeed!

    then:

Pat Boone - I'll Build A Stairway to Paradise

I just love the big band sound

Got the record, got the CD, got the MP3...!!

Was just going to answer this, but Simon beat me to it. John Ireland is now a medical doctor, practising, I think, in Pretoria.

I love messing with people's heads... now listening to:

Penny Croft - Count the Red cars

She went to the UK, but never made it there, should have stayed right here!

Hoo boy, that brings back some long-ago memories! I am squarely a 60's child, with a good dose of the 50's thrown in. That said, some of the modern bands show promise, e.g Coldplay

I've got plenty of Rebroff's songs. One of the best ones is called "Im tiefen keller". In the song, a man sits in a deep cellar, drinking. As the song progresses he gets drunker and drunker. Rebroff uses his voice range to full effect here, the last notes being so low that you feel it almost more than you hear it. Best songs of his (for me) are both Afrikaans songs: Heimwee (S le Roux-Marais) and Op my ou Ramkietjie.
