    Quick question

Is it better to put a small amp in the Jimny with upgraded speakers or do the whole radio thing

I am not want a boooooooom box, I want a radio that i can hear

i was thinking a small two channel 600w two speak system with "Hi , Low conversion"

I upgraded my front speakers and put in rear speakers (Kicker OEM replacements) - that was good enough for me on the stock radio...

...then I installed a touch screen radio/dvd/gps/etc... which provided a bit more power to the speakers.

You probably put too strong speakers in - I can't recall the output of the stock radio, but you don't want to go much stronger than that if you continue to use it.

I put these in the front: http://www.takealot.com/kicker-cs44-...s/PLID32716715

And these in the rear: http://www.takealot.com/kicker-cs54-...s/PLID32716717

They're already too much, but I knew I was replacing the headunit for one that puts out 50w a channel.

I put speakers in the back 5'' and then I fitted a 8'' slime line sub/amp under the passenger seat. worked like a charm with the std radio, but changing the std radio also made a huge diffirence

I imported an Android chinese unit from overseas - actually thinking of replacing it with a Google Auto compatible unit.

Standard radio unit and I had an amp put in under driver seat, and two new kicker speakers in front with two small tweeters. This is a major improvement already!
At the back we made a removable back board that fits behind the back seats and rests on the plastic side covers at the back. Initially it was low down and the speakers in the jack space but the sound was not good down there. Doing a new back board higher up made a big improvement. 6x9 in the back.
This is a good combo and I don't think you need a sub otherwise in the small Jimny.
I like the fact that I can remove my back board if I need the space for packing.
I suppose if you don't have back seats etc then doing rear speakers in the designated spot with a small sub would be my suggestion.
I have a split input to the amp and can hook my iPhone audio out on it for mp3 music.

I replaced the speakers with the same size, but better quality. The standard speakers are really poor quality. And installed rear speakers, same size as the front. It made a difference, but was still not good and will distort quickly. I then installed a new radio. This made a really huge difference.

I don't see the need for an amp or any further changes. The sound is more than good enough and loud enough for me.

I replaced the original headunit with an Android one, but replaced it as I had too much trouble with it. Now have the JVC double din and I'm happy. The radio output really makes a huge difference.
I replaced the front speakers with 4" Rockford Fosgate Punch co-axials and also the same speakers at the back running on a Rockford Fosgate amp. For bass, I have a 10" Rockford Fosgate Punch sub. Also running on a Rockford Fosgate monoblock. Both amps fit nicely under the front seats. I removed the rear seats, so space is not that big of a problem. But the sub is easily removable when extra space is needed.
Unfortunately I'm a sound quality freak, and the standard stuff drove me insane.
If I can give a piece of advice, put sound detening pads behind your speakers. You'll be pleasantly suprised by the sound quality differance.

Would be nice to see some install pics if you have? My plan is to fit 5/6inch up front and make custom pods that bolt in place of the rear OEM fitment spots. Then also fit a small 8inch sub for the bass. Will be a mix of RF and Lightening Audio and done by a local RF dealer in the Cape. We still working out the finer details though.

Unfortunately I have no install pics. Although I did the install myself, I could not see a possible way of fitting bigger speakers in front. Unless you make pods for the doors. Front pods at the original place would be in the way of the pedals and would get a hiding from foot movement. At the rear it is possible. But i did not want to upstage the front speakers as I want the correct staging in the car. The enclosure for the sub was build by the rf dealer as I wanted the smallest box with the biggest bang that would fit behind the seats. So the designing and building part, I left for them. Now with the seats removed, the box can lie flat on the floorboard right against the front seats.

Going with RF is more expensive, BUT worth every single madiba.

The OEM clarion unit is rubbish. If you dont want to spend the money on a new headunit and amp, I would go with a new good quality HU first, and then an amp at a later stage.

I have seen something resembling speaker bays in the back.... is it what I think it is. Is there wiring already going there? I only have the two speakers in the front.

You will see the corners are square and not round by the radio.
