    Default Range Rover vs DIscovery

    Hi All

    I have finally decided to get rid of my Isuzu 4x2 and get a proper 4x4. Also want to join the landrover family. Have my heart set on a v8.

    Have seen a 1981 Range rover with a detroit v8 diesel and a 94 landrover discovery v8i petrol both at R30 000. Going to go have a look at both over the weekend.

    What is the best option.

    Any advice is welcome. Im new to 4x4ing, I did some serious bundu bashing with my 4x2 and got stuck a few too many times.

    Rather go for the Disco. Any "conversion" is a recipe for headaches later. 2nd hand spares also much more available for the Disco

    The 13 years younger Disco will always take the cake.

    Also the difference in interior/luxuries, etc. The Disco would be my choice.

    Even off road these two are exactly the same.

    and that Detroit V8 is one very heavy lump of steel, and also very underpowered and noisy.

    Steer clear of converted vehicles! a Well-looked after Range Rover is definitely worth a look, but that will be more money than a Disco 1.

    I think the land cruiser can take the gmc diesel. I have never heard good things about that engine in a lr product. Small block chevys seem okay at a push but that diesel is just too big.

    Thanks JeMoi it has some issues but will work on it slowly as and when I have the finances. Still a very happy Land Rover owner.
