    Default Missing on Botswana

Hi all, a friend of mine asked me to share, her colleague is missing her parents.

They were at McCarthys border post on the 18.08.2015 and were apparently supposed to check in at Mabuashehube Game Reserve on 19.08.2015, but haven't arrived.
They drive a blue Toyota bakkie, with a white canopy, with an ND registration.

Their daughter is looking for them.

Unfortunately I don't have any more info other than that - can't tell you model of the bakkie even.

    Any ideas?

Phone the gate and ask the rangers to check the camp site they were booked into.

Yes, first port of call would be the Mabuasehube gate for confirmation of entry and exit from park. Tel 653 0081

That is some time ago-perhaps good to get in touch with Botswana Defence and Police?

Unfortunately I dont have more details on who was contacted and when, but was asked to put it on the forum, never know if someone is traveling there and sees the vehicle.
Will pass on the number, thanks!

Glad they were found. This is a long time camping in the middle of nowhere. The tracks in are normally relatively well used- they must have taken a very off the beaten track route.

We travelled from Nossob to Bosobogolo in Mabuasehube and after 35km we found an elderly couple stranded on a blistering hot day with a Jeep. The middelmannetjie broke off its oil filter and they were preparing to spend the night. We used our sat-phone to contact Nossob, who sent a tracktor to fetch the stranded couple. After arriving in Mabuasehube we phoned again to find if they were OK. Best thing to do is to hire a sat-phone.

    DPArch when did this happen?

Nowadays we don't travel without a satelitephone.

A few years back we decided to change our itenary to Nossob over Mabua, Kokotsa to Jwaneng. We notified the children of our new plans and landline numbers along the way such as Nossob, Mabua gate and promised to cell them as soon as we hit Kokotsa. Prepared with 5 days emergency supplies.
Daughter phoned Mabua gate on ETA date and the lady at reception told them we were not there. The gate staff sent out an emergency search party and found us relaxed close to our campsite on a sunset game drive. He escorted us to the gate and phoned my daughter, assuring us we are well and sent us in the dark back to the campsite. We saw a beautifull owl on the way back.
Rest of the tour went well.
We were also described as an "elderly couple" Who is old?
What happened to the couple in the Toyota

Having a satellite phone seems like a good option. In South Africa where can I rent a satelitephone for use in case of an emergency ?

I guess some people will do anything for a free stay in Mabua? Bet they have not paid the accumulated park, etc fees yet!

Can we not get them to give feedback on the episode?

we hire our phone from [email protected] 0828229549 a no BS rental no crazy deposit or daily insurance- just add it to your own insurance for a month - we are "elderly" folk who go to the Kalahari every two years in 4x4 alone - shana couriers the phone to you no driving around this is not an advert just good advice .
