Default Week in Norhern KZN Parks-suggestions please

We have about a week to spend in the area during the October school holidays. Camping with trailer and RTT.

Where would the best wildlife be? We also want to make a stopover at the coast. Cape Vidal or Kosi Bay?

    Thanks

Vidal has it all in one, but you have to book far in advance.

Hi, I can only comment on Cape Vidal, that is our favourable coastal spot for camping.

    One camp?-or a few?

So many possible places-search the KZN section and you will find plenty of suggestions-really depends on your priorities.

    Kosi Bay,Mabibi, Tembe , Ndumo, Mkhuze, Hluhluwe/Umfolozi, , iSimangaliso/St Lucia
    -and many more.

As Patrick L says, lots of options like Mabibi and Ndumo for camping, but if time is limited and you want some good beach action mixed with game then Vidal is great, just watch out for monkeys! Vidal is hugely popular so if in school holidays bookings might be scarce! Bushbaby Lodge in Hluhluwe is a nice central base from which to explore the Hluhluwe/iMfolozi reserve as well.

    Enjoy the trip...

There is no camping in Hluhluwe/Imfolozi park where the most game is. However I have found that Mkhuzi will offer you the opportunity to see the largest variety in a day of two. Just park yourself down at one of the water holes and wait for the game to come to you. Vidal is great if you want a lovely beach. Game viewing is restricted to a smaller number of species though. You may be lucky enough to see the resident leopard in the camp if you go when it is quiet. Ndumo is a lot further to travel and does not have a large variety of mammals either but if birding is your interest then this is the camp to go to.
My personal favourite is Mkhuzi although the siting of the camp is not ideal.

You can camp for 2/3 days in mkuze and spend time in mkuze and hluhluwe then drive up to ndumo for another 2/3 days and see ndumo/ tembe/ kosibay or stay at sodwana as a main base and do day trips to all of the above in a 150km radius

I would park off in Mkuze and travel around.
Else have a stop over at Bushbaby lodge close to HluHluwe town for 2 days (about 10 campsites) and do HluHluwe
Then move to Mkuze for 2-3 days.

Cape Vidal is nice but come holiday time we stay away it gets busy and you have to book way up front.
Else stay in St Lucia for 1 day (camp name slipped my mind) and do Cape Vidal area.
    then move higher up north.
