    Default Trip in July 2016

    Hello!

I managed to get my work to give med 4 weeks vacation next year, so next year I will be one of the travellers from overseas, that propably will need some assistance from you regulars sooner ot later.

But now I am in the lucky situation, that we have a few extra days...

The dates are from 4. July 2016 ( we arrive late evening) - 30 july 2016. So we need to be back in Johannesburg on the 29th july,

So actually we have some Extra days for the trip, do you have any suggestions?? I guess 3 days in CKGR is fine, but maybe some more days in Moremi and Chobe. Dijara seems like a nice camp. And I guess that we have to hurry to be able to make bookings for Savuti. Maybe to late already....
Or maybe we should go back to maun for restocking after moremi and the go to Chobe? Then we wouldn't have to worry to much about having to little fuel in Savuti/ Chobe.

Do we need a satelite phone for this trip?

And I guess that we wil end up skipping Ihaha, donīt wanna worry about getting robbed when I am on holiday , so any other places? I stayed at Chobe Safari Lodge Campsite, nice enough but would like to try something different.

Any advice on the campsites would also be highly appriciated....

No need to get back to Maun to re-stock if you plan your meals and storage right.
July is winter so veggies last longer and fridge is not overworking.

What could be an option is visit Vic Falls from Kasane, camping option Senyati or Chobe Safari Lodge.
Alternatively pass via Kubu Island on the way from Nata - then Kubu - then Lethlakane.

Both these alternatives "eat" a few days extra.

I would get on your bookings as soon as you can - we booked Savuti for early Sept 2016 about a month ago, and our preferred site was already taken for one of the days!

    Vic Falls for sure.

Chobe boat cruise a nice day out

Ihaha is such a nice camp......but the theft risk is a bummer.....but very very nice spot.......difficult choice......

BUT...personally I will try and spend a day or 2 extra in CKGR.....and more than one day per site......trust me....that place is so special.........

    either way.....your trip looks good.

    Thank you for the replies

I think I would take an extra day in CKGR, I forgot to mention that we have already been to Vic Falls twice, so this time we decided to give it a skip.

What about the Tuli Block? Would that be a good choice on the way back to Johannesburg?

I wont skip Ihaha..., magic place really beautiful and the thieves wont come close with BDF doing patrols. Been there last month for my second time and love it. Ablutions were painted and actually looks good now and very clean. They clean it everyday. Huge improvement from last year. The baboons was no problem this year on our site but the monkeys( blou ape) problem. Elephants, buffalo's in camp as well as one big Lion male walked right passed our site.

Thanks for all the feedback, very much appriciated

I think we still will give Ihaha a miss, they had problems with robberies before ( in 2011) and I am a little concern that when things calm down, that security will loosen till next time there is a problem. But it looks great!

    Just a few more questions:
If i only choose 2 campsites in CKGR, which would you prefer?
How cold does it get in july in CKGR? My wife keeps given me a hard time about freezing at night, she hates it.... So much for beeing a viking
Is Tuli block worth a visit after beeing to CKGR, Moremi and Chobe?

How about an electric blanket for your wife - they can run off 12v battery and inverter. I feel the cold and this is what we use.

Chat to Eggie on the forum for advice on the set-up if you are interested.

Best 2 sites in CKGR in my opinion are Passarge 2 and Piper 1 closely followed by Sunday 3 & 4
