Default Who can De-cat Cruiser in Cape Town

Hi guys, after 250k km the cat on my Prado D4D (1KD FTV) is making rattle noises and my fuel efficiency has gradually dropped about 2km/l.

My first priority is to remove the catalytic converter.
2nd Clean the EGR (this I will do myself probably)
3rd Have the Injectors checked out.

Anyone you can honestly recommend to perform steps 1 & 3 in Cape Town area?

    Many thanks.

Powerflow in Salt River, Hopkins Avenue, just off the circle. Speak to Dick Bate.
He has a dyno too, if I recall.

Did they remove the cat? If so, was it necessary to do something to tell the ECU that the cat is still in place?

How did it affect performance? I am contemplating having my Fortuner done but is unsure about the implications for the engine management system.

I recently had my V6 Tuna's cats removed, 63 mm free flow fitted and had them re-route the exhaust around the transfer box. All done at Powerflow in Bellville.

The front cats were "bashed" out and the rear ones were completely removed.
The sensors were removed GENTLY from in front of the cats. The cats were then cleared and the sensors then refitted. Was quite expensive at R5300.00

According to Kosie at KSD, the only time the engine management light will come on, is if the sensors are damaged in the process.

Mine is a 2009 4x4 auto and only has sensors before the front cats.

No change in fuel consumption as yet, as this was only done 2 weeks ago and I have'nt used the vehicle anywhere, except for a little town driving.

No sensors on mine, so they basically just removed the cat completely and inserted a straight pipe. 20min job... Still on the first tank after the removal, but will let you know if there is any improvement to the fuel consumption.

Did cut it open to 'look inside', just a wire-mesh outer with a 'honeycomb'-type filter almost ceramic/porselain material with needle-thin tubes running front to back. Think of the inside of a peppermint crisp chocolate.

Logic dictates that the flow will be a lot better with it removed anyway...

I think they sell the insides for a few rand? The guys who removed mine were very careful not to mess any and had a separate drum of crushed peppermint crisps.

Bigseb you're right it was'nt R100 to decat... Although Roddy charged me R100.00, I gave the bloke that did the job an extra R20 tip for doing it in under 20min...

Just keep in mind that mine is a '02 model with no sensors, etc. to worry about. Straight-forward cut, remove and replace with straight pipe...

Next-up is to clean the EGR and inspect the injectors...? Will have to save up a bit more to replace/repair the injectors though...
