Default Falken ZE912 vs Kumho H11 vs Conti Premium Contact2

    Hi guys (and gals),

Looking for new tyres for Swambo's Qashqai.

    Size is 215/55R18

OEM is the Conti's but very expensive at R2500 per tyre

    Falken's about R1390 per tyre

Kumho's in between at R2000 per tyre

The current Conti's has done 76 000 km's and were great, however I want to know if they are worth the premium over the other 2 brands?

Read a few overseas reviews on the Falkens and they are mixed, so not sure if I should just bite the bullet and go for the Conti's again?
    Regards

I would go for the Conti for the reason mentioned above. I found a Bridgestone Ecopia EP850 for R1939 on Errols Tyres. Check them out

Thanks Leon, ja dis waar, net gewonder of die Falkens soveel slegter is?

Also saw those , I would go for them above the Falkens any day and I see they are V rated for speed , so similar to the Conti's.

The Falkens are only H rated.

My head says Conti's/Bridgestones , but my heart says Falkens - only reason is the attractive price, but thinking you get what you pay for...

Ok so between the Bridgestone's /Conti's - which one?

I have those Falkens in 215/65/16 on my XC70 and have done about 16 000km on them to date.

The XC weighs 1.7 tonnes as it stands and is also AWD. The Falkens are just too soft for the heavy Volvo IMO. I doub't I'll see more than 25 000km (safely) on them. I probably should have gone with a more offroad-orientated tyre, but bought the Falkens due to price.

That said, they are quiet, they grip fantastically and they do disperse water very well.

Thanks Kix - the Qashqai weighs 1.5 tonnes , so might have the same issue as you.

So thinking the Falkens might not be a good option then.

Currently thinking about the Bridgestones or the Conti's above.

The Bridgestones are more SUV orientated and the Conti's are classified as passenger car tyres. Both would be good I guess. Going to shop around for prices now.

I recently put some Pirelli Scorpion Verde tyres on Swambo's Qashqai. They are available in the 215/55/18 XL size. I paid R1800 each from Autotyre in Menlyn, excluding balancing, etc. So far I prefer them to the Conti's.

    Hi Tony,

That seems like the best option so far, I called around and it seems thry have the best deal - R1825 per tyre for the Pirelli's.

Must say I am more comfortable going with those than for Falken's or Kumho's...

Thanks everyone for the advice! I'm going with the Pirelli Scorpion Verde tyres as they are the best value from what I can see.

I'm impressed with the Pirellis so far, I think they are quieter than even the Conti's...Haven't done wet weather yet but on dry roads handling is great.

Too late for you, but Falken makes a good tyre.

I've got ZE912 on my BMW and have owned several sets of Falkens on several vehicles over the years. it's a lot of tyre for the money.

I normally go for brand tyres but after looking around and reading a bit a went for Achilles ATR Sports on my T5 Volvo. I could not fault this tyres even if they are a "no name brand" in SA. Have a look at them as well.

I read a few reviews on Falkens and responses were mixed, some people liked them, other not, so I went the safe route and got a brand wirh good reviews.

So can't comment on the Falkens, they might've been okay, however I feel I got a good deal on the Pirelli's @ R1800 per tyre
