Default Dual battery system new Fortuner

I wish to add a back up battery to run the freezer in my Fortuner. I have looked at the National Lunar power pack but understand this may not function properly as the vehicle has a "smart" alternator. A DC-DC system is apparently required but this has a huge cost penalty. Any advice gratefully received.

I have a WRND charger installed and so far it works without isssue. Stofpad makes a battery bracket onto which the WRND charger fits perfectly. The bracket goes against the firewall on the passenger side.

This is a very informative thread about all things GD 6 Fortuner. Post #191 has photos of my set up.
