How about Central Kalahari in Botswana? Kruger is crowded, and not quite like Kgalagadi when it comes to a bush experience. You mention Mabua, so you are familiar with it, thats why I suggest CKGR to you...

I was planning a Kgalagadi safari for august next, but unfortunately I decide toolate and it is hard to get space now. As an alternative maybe the Kruger is agood idea. I want to avoid at all coststhe overcrowded camps and prefer the quiet ones. I clearly know that anywherein Kruger I will find the quietness of Mabuasehube, but some nice and wildplaces should be there. My aim are big cats mainly lions, so the camps shouldbe in lion countrie preferably. I plan to stay 15 days in the park and would love to get some advicefrom the 4X4 forum gurus. Wich are the best four camps o stay? Since we are going in a unequippedcar, we need camps that have chalets or huts please. Any advice will bewelcome, best regards.

Try the northern camps of Kruger, not so busy.
Suzuki Grand Vitara,
Metalian Maxi bush trailer.
Harley Davidson VRod.
I have been in Central Kalahari in 2008 and I love it. I went to Kgalagadi last year and I love the Mpayathutlwa Camp 01 atmosphere, lovely camp for lions. The problem with Central Kalahari is that my girlfriend want to stay 5 days at Cape Town too, so 15 days maybe is not enough. Thanks for the answers and I will try the north Kruger, but there are many lions there? I read somewhere that in south Kruger there are more lions, is this true? Best Regards.
More lions in the South, the theory is it has too do with more game in the South (rainfall) and the migration of Mozambiquens from East to West (info from an retired Knp ranger, not tested scientifically, just an observation), however given your desire, best book anything from Olifant's North, I would start my search at Balulie (satellite camp South of Olifants). In June we were South (Skukuza) and up to Letaba, our observation was that there was an even spread of game and cats. The further North you move the sparser the vegetation, better viewing. Enjoy (the photo, leopard between Olifants and Letaba)
Don't hesitate, Satara in the Kruger will have everything you want.

Satara is the cat country. You will not be disappointed

Thanks to all answers guys, I will try to stay 4 or 5 days at Satara and 9 nights in other camps. Can I manage the Kruger secondary roads with a Nissan X-Trail 4X2? I´m planning 5 days in Cape Town to please my girlfriend. Best Regards
The X-Trail will be just fine. Many people do it with Toyota Carolla's, VW Polo's, etc.
Toyota
A quick google search. This is how your typical KNP gravel road looks like. Little corrugated, but not too bad

Shingwedzi camp up north is a good camp and we found plenty game and also cat there . Some lovely drives in the area too. It is much quieter than South or Satara .
I have a great safari and I and my girlfriend love the Kruger. I bought a fridge Waeco CFX35 in Outdoor Wharehouse at Nelspruit to use in the safari, good fridge. The problem is that when I flight back to São Paulo on the SA224 departing from JHB at 23:40hs on 03 september, the fridge never arrived, simply get lost somewhere. I don´t know how a fridge in is original box can disappear and not came in the flight. I made complaints at a SAA desk in São Paulo and a register ocurrence was made. Maybe some of you guys know somebody at JHB airport that can give a hand. On top of this on 04 september I receive the news from friends that 400 people from the company where I work have been fired, including myself, what a bad return from hollydays huhhhhhh. I hope I get my fridge back, fingers crossed. Thanks a lot guys.
