    Question Water Tank On Trailer???

I need to install a water tank on my challenger trailer and I was told to install a water bladder in the Table compartment of the ROOF RACK but was told later that the 50 litre bladder which would weigh 50KG would not be good for the trailer's stability on the top of the trailer!!So I thought I would maybe put a bigger tank a 100 litre litre tank in the bottom in between the axle and the trailer body is this a good idea for centre of GRAVITY or should I build it into the Bottom of the TRAILER rather? Any suggestion would be much appreciared!!!I can't put it in the Nose cone as this is Insulated for Perishables etc!!!Thank You in advance!!!

Underneath your trailer means you don't use valuable packing space inside your trailer. Mine is underneath and works fine.

    Question Thanks Guys...!!

Hi Guys thanks for that one now what would you reckon is a GOOD amount of Litres to carry on a trailer as the weight of the trailer is 350Kg and the Load will be 400Kg to make the full LOAD of 750Kg in Total!!So if I get a 100 Litre tank that would weigh 100Kg there are two Jerry cans of 20litre each so another 40Kg thats with the gas bottles about 150Kg!That leaves 250Kg when one loads and carries wood the chances of being overloaded is quite strong!!The onky GOOD thing is the axle LOAD is 2500Kg which is more than some trailers which have a 1500Kg Loading!!!Thanks in advance!!!

I was looking at doing the same thing.

Got a price for a 50lt from ODW - R699 for plastic...... passed on that one.

Any ideas of what you are going to fit?

I'm quite keen on looking at the "bladder" option. Do you have a link I could look at?

    Thumbs up Hi iHilux ....?

Hi iHilux I was told by a friend about the bladder version and he was going to PUT it where he has a space for tables!!I am not mad about the idea because I would like to put my tables there rather and I am keen to get a 100 litre tank fixed to the bottom of the trailer a couple of Big Retail Shops Have said they can do it but must bring trailer in to check it out!!!I have no other places where one can do it I hoped being on this FORUM some one would point me in the right direction as well!!!I think like the GUYS above have explained it takes the water tank out of the trailer saving packing space in the beginning I thought I had lots of space amazing how the space gets used UP and now I need my space in the trailer once YOU add fridge and daul battery etc!!!

    Lekka.

I have a spot under the table to put the bladder. I not keen on puting so high up either, but it realy depends on the size of the bladder. Bonus of top install is the easy of access and in bladder format, I could remove when not used.

Any idea of where one could get a 50lt - 100lt S/Steel or plastic tank to install under the chassis? If I could get my hands on a tank, I'll fit and post pics of the installation.

    Any ideas guys?

Thumbs up IHilux that sound's cool!!

Hi Ihilux the other reason I don't wan't to use the BLADDER (Even though its very accessable!!) Alot of guys have said that it makes the trailer TOP heavy and that one must stabalise the centre of gravity by putting the water tank at the Bottom of the TRAILER - I am a bit concerned about possible damage here as well but I am sure it will be strong enough and I will have a 20 litre jerry can of water for JUST INCASE for survival IF any DAMAGE occurs!!!I will be away till wednesday and I will ask a couple of questions from some retailers and guys I know and I believe the GETAWAY show will be at the coke a cola dome at the end of the month (I won't be able to make it due to other commitments!) and surely there should be a couple of supplier's there that deal with this stuff!!!

Caught onto this thread a bit late. I have a challenger that I have fitted out over the last year or so. I have a space under the tent but above the table slide which is not accessible once the tent is installed. I put a 60l plastic water tank there.

This plus the 103kg tent adds 163kg on top. I have been to Mabuasehube and Namibia with the trailer. In Mabua, we hit some heavy cross axles and the video footage shows how violently the trailer tilts from side to side but the wheel never left the ground. I don't think the centre of gravity is such a big issue.

I have a national luna battery box in the front. In back door I have the 80l National luna fridge and next to it I built a kitchen unit that pulls out on slides.

From side door I have access to 4 ammo boxes and some bags. I put in a platform under the lid where things like Gas skottel, fishing gear, cargo nets and stuff is stored. I fitted an aluminum cabinet over the left mud guard where our clothes go.

This has it accessible from inside the tent and no clothes is left lying on the ground. When we stop this, no bags or crates needs to be taken out.

    Hi Ettienne,

    Great setup.

What tank did you put in under the tent?

I have a Bushbaby with exactly the same space under the tent, and am considering putting it there. Obviously I'm concerned about adding another 55kg on top, and under the trailer would certainly be better, but the advantages of having the tank on top seam to be out weighing the disadvantages.

Easy of accessability to filling the tank and access to the tap would be much easiers if it is on top. There is also far less modification and building brackets in the mounting process.

I'll be keen to see you tank setup a little closer if you have some pics. More so interested in how access the tank to fill, and how you've routed your tap.

Hi guys, don't go! I also have a Challenger trailer I am in the process of modifying. I am glad about Khozaan's comments on the effect of the tank fitted under the tent. I am planning to put a tank there as well. What kind of a tank did you fit Khozaan? I saw a plastic 60litre rooftop tank at Makro, but it seems there may be misgivings about plastic tanks. Any comments?
Also, I heard comments that fridges take a bit of a beating on trailers. I therefor have my fridge in the back of my bakkie on a slider rather than in the trailer. Any comments? It sits right next to the second battery as well as within easy reach of my inverter, so I have a choice of power supply, for what its worth! During the June/July holidays it came in quite handy, as I took the 12/220V as well as a 220V only fridge along.
I aim to install a pemanent battery charger, an extra battery and monitor and additional 12V power points in the trailer. I have already done wiring and fitting of 220V of plugs for those places where 220V is available, and where the battery charger will come in very handy. Came accross an extremely neat plug to accept the male caravan style plug at Brights in Cape Town for connecting to 200V outlets. Designed for outside mounting, it's cap scews on tight for a water tight seal when not is use.
I have also decided not to have an elaborate kitchen arrangement, but rather have a stove, ammo box with cups, glasses etc (in the foam which is now widely available on the market) and storage boxes with the pots, pans etc as well as supplies, which can be reached easily, each in its own spot. It will also allow me to have a separate space for a loose tent (3 boys) and all sorts of other paraphernalia we cart with us.

Khosaan, how do you fill-up your water tank, have you got a hole in the floor of the tent? I am also busy kitting out my Bush Baby and want to fit a water tank in the same place but the filling up is my only issue!
