Your engine will likely dictate what gearbox you want

    (I know, I'm a cheapskate..)

I bought two a while ago, but lost my second one somehow.

Besides, Menlyn is too far from me.

Otherwise I'll just have to buy another set from the forum...

    Hi LockLaw
It has a Chev 2.5 in with a Volvo box and std willys transfer case, Bought it like that but don't get spares for the box.

I think we will get more out of the Willys box.

Anyone maybe have an old bathtub laying around from recent renovations.
Looking for one that can still retain water for a project at home.

Hi Aubrey. To revert back to the Jeep 3 speed should cost at least R10k if you are going for a rebuilt unit from oom Mickey Harris. This will not include gears for the transfer input if it has been modified for the Volvo box. Equally, you will need a bellhousing for any other gearbox, most likely a clutch and associated mechanisms too. All in all it will cost some money to go back to Jeep. Given the extensive mods to your 2a there is little value to be gained from going back to stock.

The only plentiful vehicle for a 4 speed gearbox and transfer case with correct outputs is a Land Cruiser or Land Rover. I do not know Rovers, apart that their parts are cheap, so will write more on Cruisers. A used gearbox and transfer can be found for R6k ish.

If the 2.5 shares the Chevy common bellhousing pattern finding a correct bellhousing will be easy. If not, good luck. Then your propshafts need the ends changed to work with Cruiser parts (you will likely have to do it with any gearbox swap) and you are pretty much sorted.

Otherwise and possibly the cheapest option is to import the needed parts for your Volvo gearbox.

    Hope this helps.

Series 3 Santana gearbox and transfer cases are very robust and reasonably cheap.

Output is offset to the RHS front & back.

Gilo Engineering do make an adapter kit for the Chev 2.5 onto the series boxes:
    AG00L30
    CHEV 2.5 - LANDROVER 4 CYLINDER
    AG00L31
    CHEV 2.5 - LANDROVER 6 CYLINDER
    AG00L32
    CHEV 2.5 - LANDROVER R6
