You can take meat from Nata - Pandamatenga and from Kasane to Katima Mulilo (here I wouldn't know why as you can buy in KM) and from Katima to Kongola.
Also no problem from from Rundu to Grootfontein (but here as well - why?)

Better shops in KM and in Grootfontein each.
There are numerous reports that raw meat and vegetables have been confiscated at Ngoma bridge recently as well as Kongola coming from Katima Mulilo.
@Kalahari Safari I see a veterinary checkpoint between Nata and Pandamantenga, so no problem there? There is also veterinary checkpoint between Rundu and Grootfontein, they searched our fridge for a meat the last year there.

    Hi all,

We will be travelling to Mabua in July and I know this might be premature. We use to regularly travel over Zanzibar and Grobelaars Bridge about 5 years ago and I remember the immigration officer once told me that anything that grows below the soil is fine, but anything above is not allowed? Does this rule still apply or am I way off.

We will be travelling through Jwaneng but early on a Monday morning thus the reason for my question. I am more than happy to support the local economy for other products (beer, whisky etc) but am worried about how fresh the fruit & veg would be after a weekend.

    Hi all

We will be traveling to Botswana in Jun/Jul 16, camping everywhere. Our itenerary is as follows:
    Khama Rhino Sanctuary
Senyati Safari Camp for 3 nights
    Ihaha
    Savuti
    Khwai North Gate
    Third Bridge for 3 nights
Guma Lagoon Camp for 3 nights
    Thakadu Bush Camp

Where would you suggest we stock up on supplies-meat, vegetables? What to do travelling from Moremi to Guma, as we can't take meat over vet fence?

Which border post do you suggest from Klerksdorp?

    Thanks

Guma Lagoon Camp is at the NW Delta (Okavango Panhandle). It's between Maun and Shakawe (turn off past Estha 13, for about 15kms)

I saw this on the Botswana Government FB Page. This will surely influence the movement of products at the main borders in the south east - Zone 11

    See: http://www.mmegi.bw/index.php?aid=59...=2016/april/13

REPORTS OF BUFFALOES INCURSIONS IN ZONE 11 – SOUTHERN DISTRICT
Department of Veterinary Services wishes to inform the farming community and the general public of the buffalo incursion at Moreane crush of Letlhakane East extension area in Southern district. In view of this situation, the department has taken a decision to institute movement stand still as follows:
    • Movement of cloven hoofed animals and their products is not allowed into, out of and within zone 11 (Southern, Kgatleng, South East, Kweneng districts).
    • Slaughter of cloven hoofed animals at all slaughter facilities in zone 11 is suspended with immediate effect.
    • Beef export to European Union and other trading partners is suspended with immediate effect until further notice.
    • Movement of cloven hoofed animals and their products remains unchanged in other zones.
The farming community and general public will be informed of any further developments, and all are urged to take safety precautions because these are dangerous animals but they should be reported to the Department of Veterinary Services (DVS), Department of Wildlife and National Parks (DWNP) or the Police immediately.
For further clarification famers and the general public may contact the nearest veterinary office.

Yes. Strictly by this regulation I'm not allowed to buy beef at the Spar and transport it home. (In Gaborone)

Activities at BMC in Lobatse is suspended.

    More news this morning.

MINISTRY SEEKS ANSWERS FOR BUFFALO INCURSION
The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture, Mr Boipolelo Khumomatlhare has assured the public that his ministry is making investigations to determine the impact made by the incursion of a buffalo in Zone 11, which includes Southern, Kweneng, Kgatleng and South East districts.
The ministry suspended movement of cloven hoofed animals in Zone 11 earlier this week after a buffalo trespassed at Moreane crush in the Letlhakane East extension in the Southern District.
Mr Khumomatlhare explained in Gaborone that officers from Botswana Police Services, Department of Veterinary Services, and Department of Wildlife and National Parks searched and immediately killed the buffalo on Sunday. “The investigations are meant to determine the possible origin of the buffalo and to determine the affected crush populations with a view to carry out the necessary surveillance. “The presence of buffaloes in the heart of our EU (European Union) export Zone calls for an urgent need for their removal,” Mr Khumomatlhare explained in a press conference.
He said exports of beef to all trading partners have been suspended with immediate effect. He explained that they have notified the trading partners in Africa and the European Union about the move to suspend slaughter of animals.
He stated that they have dispersed a search team to determine if there were still any buffaloes in the area. He said it was difficult to tell how long the suspension on sale of beef to trading partners will last because investigations were going on.
Mr Khumomatlhare said that they were still waiting for results of a test on blood sample from the buffalo to know whether there were any threats of Foot and Mouth Disease in the area. He said the area has around 700,000 herds of cattle.
The deputy permanent secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture, Mr Kekgonne Baipoledi said many livestock slaughtered by the Botswana Meat Commission abattoir in Lobatse are either from Zone 11 or pass through the area and it is therefore important to keep the area clean of Foot and Mouth Disease.
He therefore urged farmers and the rest of the public to adhere to restrictions on movement of cloven hoofed animals in zone 11. “It (Zone 11) is our bread-basket in terms of beef export. We therefore need a concerted effort to resolve this matter in the shortest time possible. It would be suicidal to move the animals around at this time,” he said. (BOPA)

    Hi Eve

I see no one has responded. The last time I went through (July 2014) there was a small shop attached to one of the filling stations right next to the main road that had very basic supplies and I wouldn't consider it a "replenishing" stop. I drove through Kang itself and couldn't find anything worthwhile. Maybe someone else has more up-to-date info.

    Dear Tara

Many thanks for your informative post. I shall be travelling to the Central Kalahari via Orapa/Rakops and entering at Matswere Gate.

According to your map I shall be crossing the veterinary fence line (South to North) and then crossing out (East to West) to enter at Matswere.

    Is this permissible?

    Many thanks
    Stuart
