The officials do check vehicles. Especially when travelling from North to South. We were heading back to Nata from Kasane in the first week of September '15 and had to fork over a bit of meat that was left uncooked.

The option was there to cook the meat next to the road but wasn't really worth it so we just handed it over. Don't try to fool them and say you don't have meat/fridge since the official was very sure we had a fridge because we were towing a conqueror.

    HI,
We are crossing into Bots on Saturday 10th. Is there a restriction regarding fruit and veg into
Bots in force at this time?

    Regards.

This is just "affirmative shopping" by the lady manning that vet check point.

And today she felt like a bite of meat, tomorrow it might be veggies, and don't forget, she also needs firewood.
My experience at this point (Ngoma) over time.

That vet point is a farce, but nothing you can do except turning around and heading back to Nam.

No, no lady there, two gentleman, one even helped me start the fire and I made sure to keep the plastic zip-lock bags on the meat as it burned.. If they wanted it after that, they would be really desperate

Also made me fill in a register of sorts with details of what was taken etc.

There was a fruit fly scare about a month ago, but since then we were assured that this checkpoint was taken down at Ngoma?! They must still be up and running!
Thanks for letting us know, lets hope they pack up soon!

Anyone got an updated list of what not to take in? Meat and veggies. Got a friend going this week. Also the booze limitations?

Does anyone have a more recent update regarding taking meat into Bots?

I've been trying to call the Martin's drift border for a while now but they never answer a phone.

I am planning to buy most of my meat in Maun in any case, its just for the first few days.

I went through the Mccarthy border 4 weeks ago. I was allowed 25 kg red meat. But nou fruit tomatos or any seed fruit or veggies.

What is the situation regarding taking meat into Namibia from Kasane. Are one allowed to take meat over the border from Kasane into the Caprivi traveling east to west?

We will be travelling Windhoek - Etosha - Tsumkwe - Maun - Nata - Pandamantenga - Hwange - Vic. falls - Kasane - Katima Mulilo - Kongola - Rundu - Windhoek. I am going through the vet fences map and travellers experience on web and it seems it will be tough concerning the danger of meat confiscation:
    1. We cannot take meat from Tsumkwe to Maun, from Maun to Nata, from Nata to Pandamantenga, from Vic. falls to Kasane, from Kasane to Katima Mulilo, from Katima Mulilo to Kongola, from Kongola to Rundu, from Rundu to Grootfontein.
    2. We can take the meat from Tsumeb to Tsumkwe, from Pandamantenga to Zimbabwe, from Katima Mulilo or Kongola to Mudumu and Nkasa Rupara N.P.

Am I right? If so, it will be a lot of one-day shoppings I am not happy with.

Just want to confirm again please. So you can under no circumstances take Pork into Botswana? Not even cooked?

    No!

You can take meat from Nata - Pandamatenga and from Kasane to Katima Mulilo (here I wouldn't know why as you can buy in KM) and from Katima to Kongola.
Also no problem from from Rundu to Grootfontein (but here as well - why?)

Better shops in KM and in Grootfontein each.

Nope, wouldn't try as BW border at Ngoma is notorious for confiscation (even when there is no issue with diseases)
We call it affirmative shopping for the lady who runs the vet control, completely random - oh - and sometimes she runs out of firewood then you part with this as well.
