Default Missing registration document process ?

So a few months back I bought a RRC with a valid license until Aug 2015. I needed to put in a lot of work to get it up and running and ready for road worthy and did not bother to do the transfer of ownership etc initially.

A few weeks ago I started to get all my documentation together to start the process, but could not find the registration document anywhere !

I then did myself the huge favour of popping the engine on it and decided that maybe it is time to let go of it. A restorer has since then made me an offer that I accepted, but now obviously I need to get the paperwork in place.

The previous owner has completed and submitted that document to state that he has sold the vehicle and is no longer the owner. He also stays on a very remote farm and only goes in to town once every two weeks or so and is only going in to town on 16 June at this stage.

I would dearly like to get the documentation sorted long before the 16th. Is there a way for me to get a duplicate registration document myself (or perhaps someone that can assist me) ?
    - I have a signed sale agreement between us
    - and a certified copy of the previous owner's ID

    Yup.

They may ask for a receipt or even a police clearance to be done , it will be marked on the papers if so - you won't get a license disc until it's done .

But start with the affidavit and go from there .

    Hi Oliver,
I have lost my trailer's registration papers, the only way is to go to your nearest registration office, and give the details of the vehicle to them, and they will be able to issue you with the new registration papers...after a months time-this was a process....but you will probably have to get the vehicle on your name first, and without a copy of the registration papers, i can't see how you will be able to convince the "officer" behind the desk of the situation-well not in Gauteng anyways....good luck

Sigh, this is going to be a huge process without the reg doc: Newspaper notices, police clearances, datadotting, affidavits, etc.

I am going to lean a bit more on the previous owner rather. In theory it would take him 2 hours or so. It is going to take at least 3 weeks if I do it.
