Default Idea for SatNav in the Triton

I've been thinking of installing one of those 2-din (double din) radios in my Triton, but let’s face it the units are expensive..R7000 plus and most of them runs on Windows CE and is proven to be a nightmare to update as updates are few and far between and the navigation on those units are a bit dodgy.

I recently upgraded my 3G contract and got the Samsung 7” Tab4 for what I think is a bargain. The cash price for one of these tabs are around R2700 and on a contract as low as R169 per month including sim and data…maybe even lower on other service providers.

So I’ve been toying with the idea of installing it in the centre console of my Triton and It fits perfectly. Take in account the price and the tech possibilities and you’ll get a pretty decent system where you can add whatever App and use multiple navigation software to customise it as you please. With the audio jack plugged in and a permanent 12Volt charger connected to it, it seems as if it might actually work.

But I ran into a small little problem. The buttons to go back and to the home page are hidden when I replace the centre console cover over it, so it will be a bit of an issue exiting some of the apps and get to the home screen. The standby for the device is around 190 hours, so you don’t have to power it up as often, but if you need to power it up after the battery ran flat the button will be out of reach.

I’ll post a few picture and I’m hoping that someone can come up with a solution to my idea

I like the idea, how far is the exit button hidden at the bottom? Isn't it possible to cut a out a small piece at the bottom part of the cover plate to eliminate the problem?

You can try different home screens which uses gestures, multi touch or a floating button to navigate.

    Hi

Jis. That is a good idea. Can you not use a pin with a spring and circlip at the back, same as what you will have on a cluster. You get thes pen like probes for a touch sceen if jou can secure that to the tip op your pin then it should work.

I have noticed you have the torque app. How does it work and do you have a bluetooth dongle with it to get data from the car. What function have you lost by changing the screen.

    I love your idea
