Default Transfer case sensor cable ripped off

    Mornings!

We were out doing a harsh trail, with lunatic like inclines and loose rocks this weekend, out in the robertson area. Had a great time, until my friend noticed his 4x4 light flashing. I knew what the issue was, and confirmed it when I slipped under the Jimny, and saw the sensor(is it?) cable ripped off by a bush (no tc protection plates)

There are some connectors at the rear of the TC, but this is the one going to the front, with two reddish wires.

Can anyone with prior experience aid us with info on sourcing these, costs, or even a part number or name. I don't even know what this thing is called.

I temporarily helped him back into 2H by connecting it manually, switching...

The jimny now has a thorn in it's toe, we need to solve it!

    Thanks guys

That looks a lot like my 4WD selection switch on the TC.
So you are saying you bridged the wires and the warning light went off?

The wires there control the sensor and provide the power to the transfer case servo to engage and disengage 4WD.

Sometimes you can save it by rebuilding the plug. You would need to contact your Suzuki dealer to see if that part of the cable is sold separately.

Il see if I can find out aswell what the part numbers are

    Thanks guys!
Because if it wasn't for the bolt looking plug, it would be easy to manufacture. The other end is a plain old adapter.

Sandboarder: yep, did hotwire it to get it back to 2wd for day to day use. Still haven't fix it, merely because life has been busy the last week, but it has to happen.

I went over a truck's tyre a few weeks back. Damaged exactly the same cable/plug. Had to wait about 5 weeks for the part ta arrive from overseas as there was none available in SA (according to the stealers). They temporarily fixed it for me, even went to Afriski like that with no problems. Can't comment on the cost as my Jimny is still under warranty.

That is scary, Suzuki's parts should be more available for OBVIOUS little snags like this. I mean, ANY use of a jimny offroad exposes that cable if you have no bash plate fitted to the transfer case. 5 week without a trail is just creepy

PS: how did they hack it in the meanwhile? i don't see any way to do it, too short broken.

That is the censor that tells ecu where the switching is at. It is accentually just a switch.

    This might help:

    Hi Guys

The same happened to me a few years ago and I got the replacement from the "stealers" and changed it myself. I landed up having to go back to them to have it fixed as I lost the little ball that is on top of the switch. The guys were kind enough to do it free of charge and then tell me that this is the reason I should only get the work done by them. So watch out for that. If you still want the part number I might have it lying around? At least the part was not an arm and a leg - they already have both arms and one leg

Sorry about the late reply. It's my Jimny that has been in 'rest' mode (2x4) for the last two weeks now. I'll be taking it into Suzuki Kennilworth tomorrow morning at 7am.

They told me that they need me to book my car in for them to have a look and quote. Really hope it doesn't cost me a fortune! By the responses on this thread I'd imagine that the best thing for me to do would just be to take it in, that way I can establish which part it is and if the labour costs too much I'll just get it done myself.

    Will update as things progress!

Thanks again.. can't wait to get my 4x4 back!

Neither can I, still stuck out here and no one to help shovel me out!

But seriously, it annoys me that they cannot give you any form of estimate, surely they should know by now.

Definitely! Thanks for the heads up Marlon, that'll HAVE TO be the next step so that I can prevent this from happening again.. maybe fix will cost more than prevention *holds thumbs*
