Default Disco 3 - Dash crack on passenger side

Good evening All, anyone else suffering from a crack on the dash of the D3 where the airbags are on the passenger side? When it is hot you cannot see it, when it is cold it looks like someone slit slots into the dash. Really annoys me, anyone with a plan to sort it out or where to go to sort it out?

Nothing you can do about it.

Eventually it forms a complete crack around the airbag (all four sides) that actually looks like it was designed that way.

Some auto trimmers apply a very thin layer of something or the other, then spray paint over again. Costs between fifteen hundred and two grands

Does coverworx make a decent product, perhaps in a left hand drive. Everyone of them in the US is also cracking the same way.

Im surprised now days at how few people use sun blinds on the windscreen when the car is parked in the sun. We use the sun blinds on both our cars anytime that we park outside in the sun. My D3 has over 300 000km with no cracks on the dash. People seem too lazy to protect their dash and interior...pity

I was about to start a new topic about this, when I stumbled across this one.

I bought my 2006 D3 V8 last year September in Cape Town. At the time I bought it, it was just starting to show the outline of where the crack was eventually going to open. It hadn't opened yet, but has since opened up to the point that it is quite distracting.

I was thinking of filling it with something flexible like black silicone, and then using a black plastic-dip to cover it up. I thought I was the only one with this problem until I saw this topic. I thought perhaps the previous owner had an accident, the air bag had deployed and that maybe the repair people had not done a proper job of installing the new air bag. But I have done a very careful inspection, and see absolutely no sign of my D3 having been in an accident

I will try to load a picture of what it looks like. If anyone knows of a better method of repairing this dashboard, please let us know

A friend told me about his upholsterer in Paarl and I took her in for a bandage job.
Here are the pictures and although I need to get used to the fluffy material in contrast to the vinyl surroundings its neat and no longer will the cracks stare me in the face. And I had cracks all over - every vent and in the centre and of course around the airbag. Maybe vinyl could also work?
First we left the airbag slot open but that looked strange and then we covered it which should work as the sides are cut (loose) - hopefully never to be tested. JJ even felt the cut is not necessary as the explosion will rip through the covering but I preferred it cut.
Total cost R200 - R100 for material and R100 labour. One could DIY but you need 2 prs of hands for the glueing.
JJ took a template and can supply the cover with the holes for the vents for R100 + postage.
Sorry about the poor IQ but only had my P&S handy.

Since I got the disco 5 years ago, every time I give it a wash I treat the door insides, dash and seats with a type of leather care and I have not had one crack anywhere on the dash.

Ok, but mine is 9yrs young and in the retirement estate it spends a lot of time in the sun. But I'll definitely apply same with my next one I wish.

Yes the sun is very bad for it. Mine is also a 2005 model.

I see in the manual any cracks around the airbags must be looked at asap.

Just an observation but it seems only the cream finish is tearing I have not seen a black dash tear yet.

Looks good, will velgro stick to that cover? If so will be nice to make canvas bags with velgro that hold your binocs , books documents etc that you can store on the dash on a trip

If mine does the same, I'll rather use a thin leather. The newer ones' dashes look pretty good with the leather (fake it might be as well?)
